Cabrio Roof - closing problem

Two things now causing regular [:(]problems with the roof:
( The roof head motors have been changed under the recall at some point in the past )

1st one is just alarming - the roof seems to close fine up until it's at about 1o'clock - just past vertical,
then it seems to almost fall / speed up - so it sometimes slams down onto the head of the windscreen[][:'(][][:-]

that was the lesser of the problems!!!![]

Worst one is the head locking motors ( that clamp the roof down onto the top of the windscreen ) seem to have given up the ghost - and now I have to resort to locking these using the scredriver slots - takes ages.

When you push the button to open the roof - the head clamp motors are fine - and 'pull-back / open without problem![8|]

This fault has been around for a while - but only off and on - without any consistency?
I've tried lubricating the roof to windcreen motors, and the 'trigers / switches on the leading edge of the roof.

Anyone any ideas about other areas to check / fix / replace??[8|]

Thanks

I can only help with the first problem since mine suffered the same when I bought it. The motors/gearboxes need adjusting. Wasn't an expensive job and the independent I took mine to (Simon Hope of Hillcrest Porsche near Reading) sorted it out quickly.

Wll wait with interest to hear what is suggested regarding the second problem.

best of luck

Michael

The actual Cab Roof control unit can develop intermittant problems due to dry solder joints - this happened to mine, drives you mad...

You can try to repair the unit with a soldering iron, worthwhile, as a new one is about £400

Michael / Pete - thanks very much for the help/suggestions[:)],

Michael - had hoped soem gear adjustment might be the solution - as the motors/cables were begining to make odd noises . . [:-]

Pete - I'd feared the big thump of the roof closing might well have stuffed a connection somewhere

Can yo ulet me know any hints on how you get the roof control box out - or enough access to do the soldering - and are dry joints easy to spot, - or just go over all of them to have the most chance fo solving it?
Thanks

Hi,

Info is in this Rennlist thread http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforums/showthread.php?t=137428&highlight=cabriolet+control

This refers to the position of the controller in a LHD car, but it is in the same place on a RHD car. My Indie did the work in the end, but I think the controller is under the glove box. There was also a problem with a power feed cable to the controller on my car, but I think most of the unreliability is in the controller unit itself.

Cheers

Pete
