hi
i have a 91 cabrio the roof has become a pain it does not so much leak as seep through making the under side wet through i am guessing it sounds like it needs reproofing but can anyone recomend something so the water repels from it i think it is my fault as i put a car cover on it and it seems to have rubbed the proofing off the roof with the wind or do i need to replace the roof which would be a shame as it is in good condition no rips or tears and window is clear does have an annoying gap at the back of the drivers door window but this must be alignment how do you this had a go but did not seem to make a differance any advice as to what to buy or try i in south yorkshire

dont want to sound stupid but have just done a quick search for it and only thing coming up is a brick stone and wood sealer is this what you mean?

ORIGINAL: red gm

have a look at products by RENOVO - very popular with mx5 owners

http://www.mx5parts.co.uk/advanced_search_result.php?keywords=renovo&x=0&y=0

although i got good results on a vinyl roof using boot polish !
I've used the renovo dye for cab hoods previously and it is very good, the only reason i tried thompsons is that i read a thread regarding it being used to proof a boxster hood with good success (can't remember what site the thread was on tho').

thanks guys will give it a go this week will give it a good wash let it dry and think i will try thompsons first as if it seals bricks and wood and is fine on the roof should be good i did ring a roof trimmers before i posted this and they just aid it would need repacing so i guess i have nothing to lose many thanks for your help and advice

Hi Jason,

If the roof is in VGC then Auto Glym do a 2 pack shampoo & reproof kit for about £15 from Halfords & other stockists. I used it on mine and works well best shampoo & let dry then reproof with pistol grip sprayer mine hasn't leaked yet & you can see the beads of water roll off the surface. Do not wash the roof when washing the car & try not to put the cover on when roof is wet!
I haven't tried Thompsons so would be interested in your feed back if you do?

regards

Tony
