Cabriolet Hood drains battery

With the hood down and engine off my battery drains in about an hour. I've checked with a meter and found that once the hood is up and latched the problem ceases. As soon as the roof is lifted it draws about 14 amps. Any help greatly appreciated.
 
Put a tester on the battery with everything off and see if its drawing current. If it is then find out what is, if not then your battery is knackered?
 
Try it with the hood stopped at various point through the movement and see if it happens as soon as it leaves the header rail or if it is only when it closes. I don't have any good suggestions (beyond you should have sold the car to me, then you wouldn't be having this problem [;)]), but that will tell you a little more about what might be causing it. There are microswitches to tell it when it reaches the ends of the movement (I assume) and it might be one of them either the one that senses it leaving the header rail or the one that senses it being fully open.
 
The problem only goes away with the hood fully closed. I,ve tried at various points of travel and it still draws 14 A from the battery.

Sounds reasonable. It has a dodgy hood though, so my offer is reduced by £17,500 to reflect that.

Slightly more seriously I could do you a his 'n' hers set of MX5's in swap? (for anyone thinking it, hers 'n' hers would not be funny [8|])

I'm with Fen about the supply not being cut to the motors when the hood is down. You could try pushing down on the roof to see if a little more movement trips the switch which I am told is on the roof gearbox in the drivers side behind the rear quarter panel.
