Cabriolet questions

Are there any Cabriolet owners out there?

A couple of questions:

1) Has anyone serviced the hood mechanism? Mine sounds a bit rough and sounds like the mechanism could do with a good clean and lubrication. I've removed the plastic quarter panels and can see the motor/winder system, is there a way of lubricating without removal? If it needs removal has anyone any instructions?

2) After removing the front seats I have found a 'black box' under the carpet on the passenger side. It has a black cable going into it, and I can see what looks like the edge of a card/circuit board in red. Any ideas what it is? Part of the alarm/immobiliser?

All help and tips gratefully received.

mine sounds quite rough as well. i just assumed this was standard as the car has only got 50k on the clock

Mine was quite rough too despite having been repaired and serviced and with a new cover just over a year before I bought it.

Personally I'd leave VERY well alone if it works and it's only the noise you don't like.

It does work OK, athough the two alloy upright pillars just behind the side windows are both snapped and need replacing, so whilst doing those I thought a bit of lubrication to the mechanism (after 16 years) wouldn't do any harm.

I think that was possibly what was repaired on mine before I bought it. I doubt that lubricating it would do any harm but the frame looked to use nylon washers to me which probably don't need it.

As mine worked fine and had a new cover I was more than happy to leave it alone because it looked like one of those things you can really get wrong by meddling if you don't really know what you're doing.

It was more the cables and drive mechanism I was wanting to lubricate. Maybe best left alone whilst it's working!

Another question - on the floor seat runners there are some extensions pieces at the front that have popper studs on them, are they for a tonneau cover? If not what are they for? Thanks in advance.

The extension pieces are for atatching the carpet mats too....Original fitment ones have holes in them to "pop" ever the fasteners.....
