Cabriolet roof mechanism problem!

I had the top down for the first time this weekend. The top went down with no problems, but when it came to puting it back up, it almost reached the clip and the motor started whirring and the movement stopped. A bit of 'manual' help resulted in clip engaging correctly but I am now a bit worried [:-].

Although I have the full Porsche warranty, and the car was serviced recently, I wonder wether this is due to non-use over the past couple of months or so, or is it a 'real' problem?

Has anyone any experience of this and/or suggestions [short of a visit to the OPC]?

I have a 2003 cab and sorry have never had a problem with the roof, even after the long use of the hard top over our lovely Scottish winters. If it was me I would go back to the OPC where it was recently serviced and get them to have a look. It might be as simple as some lubrication for the mechanisim.

Hi

This may seem obvious, but was the car on level ground?

I have a much older car (1988 911 cab) and have experienced this problem a couple of times.

Just a thought

Have fun

Thanks folks.

The car was on level ground - it seems that a visit to the OPC is called for! Luckily I have the full warranty.

Well, folks

I went along to the OPC in Cambridge on Friday morning to show them the problem.

I solemnly got out of teh car, was met by a salesman and demonstrated the problem with both the key and the internal button. You can imagine my embarassment when the system worked perfectly [8D].

Apparently this problem occurs when a cabriolet has not used the roof for several weeks/months. If the hood is dampened and raised and lowered several times, the problems tend to rectify themselves.

Now I know...

Thanks for your help.

Hi Julian a friend of mine is having problems with his roof can you explain what this process you are talking about is please.

Also can anyone suggest a good specialist in London that could take a look at his roof should Julians solution not work please ?? ( he has been pointed to Northside in Streatham ??)

Thanks
