Cabriolet Roof Rack

Hi - I've just been monitoring an auction on EBay for a Porsche Roof Transport system for a 993 convertible, but did not bid for it in the end as I was not sure how it worked, and would look.

I've just been looking at the roof, and see that it has gutters - does anyone know if the Porsche Roof Transport system utilised these gutters, and if it did, are there other roof racks that fit (Thule etc?)

Pete

I looked into the whole roof rack thing a while back as I needed to be able to carry my MTB about but couldn't find another good roof rack that wouldn't damage the gutters (no listing under Thule, etc only cheap and cheerful) Porsche system isn't cheap but I managed to drop on one on ebay for £150 - they retail at nearly £400. Am very impressed at the quality and I think it's money well spent - plus I can always sell it on if I sell the car.

Thanks for that - does the Porsche one connect to the gutters as a normal roof rack would?

Cheers

Pete

Robert,

You beat me on the ebay auction. If you want to sell can you let me know. Equally, am thinking of going skiing over the summer and might be prepared to rent it from you... I assume there are very few "wearable" parts.

Let me know if you're interested.

Regards

Michael

Sorry for the delay - yes it does connect to the gutters like the "old" roof racks but its shaped to fit the contours of the car and is covered in thick rubber to protect the paint work.
In reply to your post mmylonas - I'll be using the rack at a fair rate from April to September to transport my mtb to various mtb marathons. - but if I do ever decide to sell it I'll put a post on the forum.
