I'm looking to buy a 997 carrera 2 or 4 cabriolet. Does the air scarf work? I've currently got a BMW Z4 convertible and my wife is sure that the air scarf reduces the damage to her hairstyle! What is the width of the car (garage restrictions!)? I've previously owned a 996 Carrera 2 coupe which fitted my garage OK but am not sure how much wider the later cars are. Thanks for your help!

Hi David
I am not so sure that Porsche actually do Air Scarf. Do you actually mean Wind Deflector? If so I cannot see any reason why it would not work any differently between a 996 and 997.
Width of a C2 is 1808mm.

David,
We have a Gen2 C2S Cab, and can confirm that the wind deflector is very efficient, and the difference hood down with and without is quite noticeable. My wife has commented on how good the deflector is!!
We had a 986 Boxster before this, and there was definitely more 'turbulence' in that than with the 997.
As said width is 1808mm, 1952mm with mirrors.

Hi Davjoma,
The wind deflector on the 996/997 is great. I had a C4 cab for 4 years, and now have a turbo Cab, and can honestly say the difference
the deflector makes is really noticeable. My wife (and me!) likes her hair long and used to get it whipping round her face in other
convertibles weve had, but not in the 996/997's. Another advantage is once its in you have a discrete (if not secure) storage area
underneath for odds and ends.
Width is a problem in my garage, I leave the drivers window down to make it easy to get in and out. This doesn't seem to affect "sleep
mode", I regularly leave it like this with no problem, you can reach in and open the front and back lids without any of the lights
coming on so I guess this doesn't wake it up!

Wills, thanks for that! I'll have to turn up to a Porsche club event and have a closer look at cabs but they sound right. There's something about being able to get your top off! Yes I also leave the windows open on my Z4. The roof is also quite often left open when it's in the garage. Well, if it's dry it's top off time!

RCS, thanks, I live in Hampshire so maybe a bit far for a day trip! However, thanks for the offer, most kind!

If only it was spring/summer it would be a good excuse for a drive out []
