Anybody else going? Positively my last trackday this year!!!

Will be there Monday evening.

Haven't done Cadwell yet and would have to liked to join you on this one but off to sunny holidays that day [&o]

I believe Ian Harvey is booked and ChrisW was still getting round to booking it when I saw him at Silverstone.

From Steve Kevlin:-

We have space for only a few more cars on this day, which will be on the full or "˜Long' circuit. This will be run as "˜Open Pitlane'.  As we do have some places, we will accept bookings for ½ day sessions at a cost of £100. The cost of the full day will be £195.

Was going to come up and watch tomorrow but the weather forecast is horrendous!!

Hope they've got it wrong.....Cadwell in the wet and cold is not the safest of places....be careful all!

Bum!! Just very windy here at the mo, but not cold! Just walked the mountain circuit at dusk.....

Well I went [;)]

Ian and Melv did not have the benefit of standard road tyres ... so were troubled mometarily by standing water ... but at least it did not flood across the circuit between Goose Neck and Mansfield ... which was nearly my nemesis three Cadwell park's ago !

As always I started slow and got faster. There was some fast machinery there --- GT3 3.8's and a couple of race cars.

The trusty Cayman R was in it's element [;)]

Melv, is it adoptable as the modern day 964RS ?? [:D]

(I'm told that straight swop's for 964RS' are on offer for anybody interested !!)

Maybe not ... [:-]

P.S. Ouch ... and a GT3 MKI got nastily caught out ... [8|]

Bit of understatement going on, it was totally soaking with loads of standing water and almost guarenteed aquaplaning. There were lots of 'offs' including a well smacked GT3 and some lesser incidents. Tell-tale fresh tracks accross the grass and mud etc dragged back on track were common. My sympathies to the poor bloke with the GT3, frankly it could have been anyone.

Chris' new Cayman R was very nice and competent, especially in these conditions, probably the quickest pairing there today. Melv eventually called it a day which was very understandable considerimg his well worn MPS Cups. My 40% worn 888's behaved ok but didn't tempt me to take liberties at all. Caution was the order of the day. To be fair the rain eased a bit for the last hour or so but only just enough to disperse the standing water, it remained treaturous and not very enjoyable. I don't think i ever saw more than 8 cars on track at once, sometimes as few as 2, enough said. Still better than work, just.

Chris and others who experienced the "R" on the day, this may be of interest?

Funny, but as we all know hardly any motoring journalists of the time were into the 964RS,,,,,,now they finally like drivers cars! [:D]

It was nice to see a good turnout in such appalling conditions. Morning sessions were blighted by constant rain, we pulled in to parque ferme at one point due to lack of vis. Track was not bad apart from standing water on Park straight and the Start/Finish straight. The later claiming an expensive GT3 victim. Hall bends and the Hairpin,as usual a little greasy had a few traction controls buzzing. Hall bends claimed minor F&R damage to the R4 Ro's boxter.
After lunch, the rain subsided and the track started to dry. Melv you missed out, but I respect your descision. Great dry line of clean track developed leading to some good driving between Barn and the Mountain, care still needed in the woodland circuit.
Generally a good day, I know I was tired at the end of it. Well done Steve, looking forward to next year. I'll have a chat with the rain gods!
Gavin.

I was struggling getting traction in the motorhome on the way back!![;)]

Shagged Michelin Sport Cups and standing water don't mix....I think only the Marshall at Park had the pleasure of seeing my spin[:)], there being so few cars on track....and I was having such fun finding the wet lines on the outside of the corners[:D]

Top day despite all that....

Thanks Paul, how very interesting [:D]

If theirs was a PDK, it's essentially the same spec as mine.

It completed it's running-in at 2000 miles after 100 miles around Oulton Park, and exceeded my expectations in the wet at Cadwell --- where after 122 miles it turned 3000 miles [;)]

It was simply astonishingly exploitable in the wet, --- and it probably needs a faster driver in the dry !!

But it's a road car !!!

Where did you spin Melv, there arent many places that you can get away with it. Park and Mansfield, or possibly Charlies 2?

I'd have been putting the car back on the trailer too I think! :)

Bottom of Park Hugh....river flowing across the track!! Shame, coz elsewhere I was working on the grippier wet lines!!

Park wasn't such a safe place to go off some years ago when a guy tripple-rolled his 993RS(R?) on a slowing down lap at this very point. It was another PCGB day, short circuit and very wet. From memory he span off to the left, veered back accross the track and onto the grass on the other side, caught something and over she went.

I can assure everyone that, for me at leasst, there was no fun in holding your breath for a number of seconds waiting for the aquaplaning to stop and your car slowly turning sidways. Always good to drive home in one piece after a trackday but it was especially so after this one.

Still, I'll no doubt be back for more next year, awful recession permitting.

Ian
