Calling all Cayenne owners

Cayenne owners,

If your Cayenne is a RoW car (i.e., not US or Canada based) would you please be kind enough to test out my VIN decoder. If you see any errors reported or the VIN decoder reports incorrect information, please drop me an email or PM me with your VIN and details what model you have.
I have had feedback from US based owners but none from RoW.

Note: your vin will only be used to test out the decoder, I will never disclose it. Also, the decoder does not record your VIN.

Many thanks for your cooperation.

Bernie,

As a Club Official, I (and the Club) cannot recommend that members do this.

The provision of this data over non-secure routes, is not recommended.

Whilst I appreciate that you have good motives, I will place a health warning on this for members.

Larry, that's utter crap.

First off what gives you the impression that I am asking the clubs recommendation?
Secondly, the VIN of your car CANNOT identify who the car belongs to or where it is located.
It is also non-computer word searchable and is made up simply of characters and digits that have no relative meaning except to anthing remotely Porsche related. If you can find a computer program that can sift out a Porsche VIN over a non-secured Internet route then your a better compuer programmer than I am.
Finally, your comment is so petty that it really has put the icing on the cake as far as my thoughts on the clubs toffyness. I mean really Larry, I am not asking for bank account numbers here and I have made it clear that I wont disclose any VINS passed to me.

Just for everyone's information, a RoW Porsche VIN can "ONLY" tell you:

1) year of manufacture
2) Assempbly plant location
3) Model
4) Manufacturing Sequence number

There is no registration or DVLC information and it cannot be crosschecked or looked up. It is not an engine or chassis number either.

Your comments are provoking and vexing.

I'll leave it to individuals to decide Berny.

As I said I appreciate your motives are well intended.

I tried it out and was pleased with the result. It told me that my late 05 Cayenne is classified as an 06 model. this was good news to me as when you buy a 'Stock' car you have no idea when it was manufactured and whether you have bought a vehicle that has been around for ages sitting in a showroom.

I can see no security threat to using this decoder. All it seems to do is tell you what each character in your vin means. eg if your vin starts WP1 then it shows that the car is West German (W), Porsche (P) and a SUV (1)

In my opinion this is a interesting decoder and worth a try but it is bit of a hassle registering on the site to test it out !
