calling Rick...mini britania.

Would you happen to be doing the mini Britannia? Have you done the tour, I was thinking of entering the RS in the targa class. Any advice? Is it a crazy idea? What are standards like at the circuits?

Hi buddy, comes HIGHLY recommended. Lots of fun... drivers are all pretty accomplished. Much better than say Tour Auto... only major damage I've seen was boy getting it wrong all on his own (Targa class 996 GT3) although they have been known to manage a start-line shunt, the Targa guys usually start at the back of the grid.
I was hoping to do it, but couldn't find a co-driver brave enough... and then car got behind schedule... but I think you'll have a GREAT day.
(Tell Alec I sent you, shouldn't be an issue with a late entry)
Rick

Thanks for the advice, just confirming with co-driver today on dates, if we dont make the mini, we'll definately be doing the Targa for the full event next year. Interesting you mention it against the Tour Auto, been talking about that too for next year, although it seems like a lot of cash and a lot of holiday to take on one event.

What would you want to do the Tour Auto in Sir?
It's VERY difficult to get an entry unless you have something interesting...
Cheers
Rick

So I hear, and I guess we are unlikely to get in .....a '65 901.

The killer is, what do you do? Plan to take holiday, budget a fortune, in case you get an entry .......at the expense of other events. Seems like we should try.

It's an awesome event... but was speaking to some guys on the Historic Monte last year who had entered 6 different cars over 6 years and never got in... their argument was that Peter Auto should admit it's invite only!
To be honest, think you'll struggle with a 901... LOT'S of serious 911's get entered: last year we had Brumos RSR next to Toad Hall RSR next to European Hillclimb Champion '74 RS next to 3 genuine, raced in Period '73 RS's, couple of real ST's(!), 904, 906 etc.
If your car has a famous history in period then you have a chance. If not, you may struggle.
THAT SAID, it is simply the most fabulous event I've done. Absolutely loved it!
Sorry to be a bit negative.
Rick

Thanks for the insight, I guess we'll struggle. Car (whilst lovely) isn't going tick all those boxes. I think we'll put the entry in and see what happens, there isn't much to lose. Out of interest, what you did you do it in? And did you run a support car too? Makes quite a difference to costs, but looks sensible to do.

I think we'll put an entry into this, and if /when it doesnt get in do the Tour + Targa Britannia as a backup plan.

I did it in a 1952 Aston DB2 that was raced in period. So not a mega competitive car on the index of performance (for that you need one of the large number of 356's that get entered, plus not many people enter old astons to rally/race aggressively.
Plus my co-pilot has "connections" that help us a lot with getting in I think...
Hope you manage to get in, it is a fabulous event.
Cheers
Rick

Entry sent this am, will you keep posted. If we did get in, I'll be shouting about it. :)

and thanks for the advice. ....a bit of an eye opener.

Good point... need to send mine in. Usual story, car I want to enter isn't ready... so will enter another and hope I can change at later date. Claim "Force Majeur". ("What happened, has the engine in your original car blown?", "No, it's just the engine in the new car is faster"!)
Good luck
Rick

haha - I see there is actually a section that states...."if this car isnt successfully, do you have another eligible car we could consider" i.e. what else do you have in the garage.
