Calling the Scot's

My brother has recently moved to Aberdeen so I thought it would be a good excuse to stretch the legs of the 944 as soon as the weather improves. I will be taking the usual M6 slog upto Glasgow but fancy taking a more twisty route onward to Aberdeen. Anyone with local knowledge know a good twisty and deserted route to Aberdeen from Glasgow - the type of roads you see in the mags and TV tests with stunning scenery, baby's bum smooth tarmac and not another living soul in sight???

My first choice route would be from Glasgow (I hail from here but live in Berkshire now having emigrated in 85) via Loch Lomond to Crianlarich thru Glen Coe onwards from there to Fort William, from here drive parallel to Loch Ness heading for Inverness passing Castle Urquart, can't remeber the road numbers but they are obvious. Much to see including Ben Nevis if its not too cloudy, Should be nice in winter

You HAVE to do the A93 to Braemar (through the ski slopes), and then over to Aberdeen. My favourite road [:)] and much used by the motoring press from Fast Lane through to evo.

I'll also send you an email about a bit of light relief when you are coming up the M6. It is a very lightly trafficed and fast secret road..... so I'm only gonna email if you promise you can "hod yer water" as they say up here [;)]

The problem with that sort of road is that you will see ONE living soul, and he'll be McPlod in his jam sandwich hiding up a lane somewhere.

They're especially bad around Aberdeen. I know, I was nicked by one a while back, and later told by a local that the police are really rabidly anti speeding around there.

I'm not sure that the Aberdeen Police are that bad (never had any problem with them yet, touch wood), but for God's sake watch yourself in the Dundee area -- I regulary see camera vans and patrol cars that have pulled motorists over.

Scott - sent you an email regarding the secret road. You must print it off, delete the message, then eat the hard copy (you are allowed to read it first though) [;)]

Grampian Police have the fewest mobile fans of any force in Scotland. As for patrol cars, it only takes local knowledge.

I have to agree with milk-ok, that road is probably one of the best in Scotland for gunning it. You have a great field of vision and the surface is in good condition. Just slow down a bit when you get over Ballater.

Watch for the hump backed bridge, I have lost a few towing-eye hooks on it!

Apart from one other road in Ayrshire, its by far my favorite.

Your not still going on bout that road are you Mik [:D]

Maybe next summer we can finally get run up there.

Mik - your secret route is safe with me. Message absorbed and destroyed!!

Wow, to looks like the journey there and back will be half the fun. I think i'll have to extend my trip up there into a mini tour of Scotland with a visit to my brother halfway round!
