Cam Chain - again

Hi would like to know at what miles people have replaced these on their cars.
Examples would be great...

thanks

When I bought my "s" with 55,000 miles on it the chains had been renewed already, at about 50,000. The cost of new cams alone, let alone valve and other incidental engine damage should the teeth go, far outweighs the cost of having someone else inspect it, and for a "two spanner" person it's a no brainer.

I had mine done at 100,000 miles when I first heard of the potential problem. Luckily there was minimal stretching and the grooves on the plastic slipper were very small. I shall be changing it again at the next service as I have now covered another 50,000 miles. It is very easy to inspect the chain and slipper yourself using this procedure:

and Bert Gear at www.Berlyn-services.co.uk sells a new gasket for when you refit the cam cover or a kit with new chain, slipper and cam cover gasket for £30 (if you feel brave enough to replace it while you're in there).

Over the years that I've had my S2 I think I have heard first hand from various club members and the UK forums of about 4 chain failures which resulted in new cams ££££££ [] so it's cheap insurance to change that slipper regularly
