Cam Chains and Tensioner S2 944

Ok so I was reading and one of the main problems with the S2 ( well poss all 944's ) but only talking about the S2 here. Is this tensioner chain and the pads.. So It got me thinking what's mine like
So I took the top off... and this is the result of what i see..

your views please..

the pads look quite new. the wear is less than 1mm heck it's less than 1/2mm and they are not as brown as I expected with the oil and time.
The service history does show that the car has been serviced it does not say the words replaced tensioner.. but I can see an invoice for inspect and replace the chain for the more modern chain at about 58,000 and the car is on 89,000 by a company called 2 plus 2 limited...Looking to be in the Midlands area.. It also says about removing the cams to inspect the gears so I am guessing they have changed the pads when they did the chain as it looks so new..

So does this look nice and safe or should I chuck some money at it and get it all done??

pics here..

I feel more comforted by the thought some work has been carried out on the car in this problem area.. the cam belt has been changed and the tensioner..but not the water pump something I will do over winter..

Looks fine to me. What's the lower slipper pad like?

It's not so much wear on the pad that's the problem per se, it's the pad becoming brittle with heat and age. PTFE would have been a better material than nylon.

yes well commented on the bottom pad looks the same conditon ( and colour ) as the top one.. So either its good or some one has replaced the pair of them.. I may call this 2plus 2 place and ask them the invocies are quite detailed.. heck they are like mini novels!!!

I inspected this part £15 and then changed this part as it was partly worn £155 then I ..... LOL [:D]

The chain and the pad were never an official service item but as cars started to approach 100,000 miles we started to hear stories of snappage [] and resulting big bills. As a rule of thumb we now advise people to change the chain and pad every 50k miles just to be safe. I had them changed on my own car at 98,000 and 150,000 and it has just crossed the 200k milestone so will be getting them done again at the next service.

It's almost impossible to detect wear visibly (unless its really bad with turned over sprockets) and all my chains have only ever exhibited a few mm of stretch when compared with a new one

Saw a 968 engine recently, which had totally trashed the cam sprockets - round with little bumps left - and all the exhaust valves, so would certainly want confirmation the chain and slippers were replaced.

like I say I will call them, the chain is writen down as replaced for sure.. I have not read about the pads.. but they are not expensive and I think it looks a easy ish job I might as well do them before winter..
