Cam Cover leak

Can anyone please advise if that to repair leaking cam cover (sealant) does this require engine out, and approx cost

It isn't an engine out job, but it is time consuming. IIRC yours is a 3.4. The book time for a 3.6 is slightly less. This is the operation description for the 3.4:

Operation: 15 91 19 00
Time Units: 400 (4 hours)
Description: Cover for camshaft housing removed+reinstd
* Up to 2001 model
* 911 Carrera
* 911 Carrera 4
CONTAINS
Wheel remove and reinstall
Rear muffler remove and reinstall
Exhaust manifold remove and reinstall
Ignition coils remove and reinstall
Spark plugs remove and reinstall
Oil return pipes remove and reinstall
Oil suction pump remove and reinstall
Covers f. camshaft housing rem+reins
Oil pressure switch remove and reinstall
Engine oil drain and fill
 
Thank you Richard, car is a 2002 3.6 996 Cab in Guards Red, as it appears that the exhaust has to be removed, looks like a good time to replace the rusting silencer boxes (already the nuts have rusted away ) ..... more expense ..... I think car also needs an aircon rad as well as it is showing some staining ..... but he what price fun ........ FYI drove a new Boxter S the other day, I recon it handles better than my Carrera!
