Cambelt covers

My trackday car is just being finished off for rockingham in a couple of weeks.

I have had the cambelt plastic covers off to inspect everything but is there any reason why I can not just leave them off?

That we we could change belts/inspect without pulling everything off.

A trip into the gravel may have the belts off with no covers, I'd cut the rear cover though so in future you can get the waterpump off easier.

You have to trust Porsche as to why they fitted them in the first place, it's not just to keep gravel out, but also fine grit, rubber marbles etc. I know what you're saying about access to the belts but situated where they are (front of the engine) they will get plastered in all sorts without the covers on, my advice, stick them back on as Paul says, one trip to the gravel or the car in front goes through the gravel, belts jump a few toothes, bye bye engine !
