camcover gasket replacement

I managed to get the cam cover of my S2 and everthing looks good. The question I have is there seems to be a small ammount of gasket sealer in the corners. Is it necessary ? Should I just scrap it off and just replace the gasket.

Your views would be great.

The surface should be perfectly clean, scrape it off with a gasket scraper but be careful not to damage anything the aluminium is quite soft compaired to a scraper! Clean it all off with thinners or something like that on a clean rag!
