Camera Mount

Has anyone out there worked out the best way to mount a digital video camera in their 986 ?

I havent actually gone out and bought a camera yet, but with a track day looming I'm seriously toying with the idea of geting one. I've seen a few camera mounts that go around the roll hoops, but they seem completely oversized for the smaller Digital Video cameras you get nowadays....

Any links / photos / ideas anyone might have would be appreciated :)

You might need to keep it out of sight as not all Trackdays like you running with cameras!

I have one of these for trackdays - it's excellent and can be used in any car, not just the Boxster...

You can see a video taken with it here

I've also used the brey-krause one you clip over the rollbar, but its a lot of effort to fit, and you can't have the wind deflector in place with it on.

I like the look of the window mount one - small and out of your main line of sight...

As for them not allowing - I know one of the guys had a small camera mounted in his GT3 RS between the seats and noone minded (but it was a small camera)

Thanks for the info...

Now to go spending :)

The b hague one is great - its was actually designed to hold photo studio lighting onto walls etc, and is made by Manfrotto.

I also have a B Hague SM1 suction mount and it is great. Once you have pumped it out, a process which can take a couple of minutes, nothings shifts it. I suspect that you would break the glass before it let go. Give Hagues a ring in Nottingham, where the mounts are manufactured. They could not have been more supportive and helped me select an appropriate combination of bits for my car/camera.

I put my mine on the extreme left inside of the windscreen and operate my Sony camcorder with a tiny remote. You need to keep the windscreen clean and ideally put some matt black paper or cloth on the dash to reduce reflections. My passenger can then see forward and operate the zoom using the LCD screen. Last year's PistonHeads Eurohoon in the Swiss Alps produced some great footage. I speeded it up for a laugh - it impressed my friends!

Be aware that some Alpine areas are used by the military who can take a dim view of video cameras. An Italian military policeman stopped me last summer - but only because he wanted a closer look at the car!
