Can Air-con be Retrofitted ?

Is it possible to retrofit Air conditioning to my '84 911 Carrera 3.2 Targa ?

As I try and keep the car as original as possible I would prefer the Porsche option, but if that is not possible (or is totally uneconomic) I would not mind an aftermarket system.

Are there any specialist that do this ? (Kent, Middlesex or West Midlands).

All and any advice would be gratefully received. Cheers David

A good few years ago when I worked in a Honda dealer we used to fit air con (to Hondas), major job.

New heater assembly, plus pump, piping ect. took a good day anf half.

God knows what the cost of the Porsche parts would be.

Greetings
I've got air-con on my '85, came as a factory fit. As I understand it A/C twenty years ago wasn't up to the sofisticated systems that you now get in modern vehicles. All I get is cool air through the two middle vents only, and two control knobs in the center console, one does the fan speed and the other the amount of "cooling". Seems to work after a fashion but in fairness the system has never been overhauled so maybe it's not working up to full speed anyway[:-]
I seem to remember that if the A/C was fitted when the car was ordered it would set you back around £2000, back in '85[]
Personally I run around with the window open only so I can listen to the sports exhaust I've got[:D] (poor boy. ed.)

I looked into it with my previous 88 3.2. Spoke to several Porsche indep specialists and also aircon specialists and they all said to avoid. They reckoned would cost £4K and even then more trouble than worth. Your options probably is do without or sell it and buy another with aircon.

Had my 86 Carrera done several years ago by a company called MAC who used to be near Heathrow. Instalation was authentic german unit & in the pax footwell akin to the original.
Web search produces http://www.macair.uk.com/ who are now in Stonehouse Glostershire. I see it is the same gentleman. Garry Goggin. Suggest you give him a call 01453 828751
Otherwise, check out Porsche Post as there are the usual recognised specialists all there.
Certainly worth doing if you need a/c.
If I did it again I would go for a more modern setup where I didn't lose the pax footwell
