Can Cliamte Control Be Retro fitted?

Hi All,

looking at buying a boxster. Some have the digital climate control, others dont.
Can it be retro fitted and if so, is it a case of removing the dial unit and fitting the digital one?

I assume you are talking latest 987 models, some with air con and others with auto air con. If so then you'll need a lotmore than the different panel, as the ACC relies on sensors in the cabin to judge sunlight and air temperature. It will probably have to be programmed into the car by your local OPC too, and will invalidate any Porsche warranty you may have. I have to alter the temperature setting on my 987S with ACC fairly frequently so i'm not convinced ACC is any real benefit.

For 986 cars there was only difital climate control, or basic rotary dial ventilation - to upgrade you'd have to install all the air con pipework, condesnors etc , which is too cost prohibitive.
 
now seen your other post - find another car that has air con fitted, but bear in mind that at 5-6 years old condensors/ rads will need replacing (about £500 a side). Check the front air intake ducts - you will be able to see the bottom of the rads, if they are covered in leaves and road debris then wealk away, the rads will be rotting away behind that debris.
 
to check for debris it advisable to take a pocket torch with you just to look inside the front bumper for all the debris that builds up on the rads..

Perhaps not, but the area does still get infiltrated by road salt and rainwater, so its never the best environment. If you could keep them squeaky clean then i suppose they'll last as long as any other radiator, which could be many years. Thedebris also get trapped between the air con rad and the coolant rad behind so you do need to get a thorough clean in there from time to time. If the car gets little use in autumn and winter times then this will obviously reduce leaf debris ingress.
