Ive had a good look round the net and cnt see any clear indication.

I got a low miles 1988 944 with good engine at a decent price recently and instead of overhauling my engine
was wondering if i could put its 16v engine into my 1988 2.5 8v car.

Anyone know what sort of work may be involved or have done it themselves ?

You can put any 944 engine in or even the 968 engine in as I have done before.
Off the top of my head you will need to swap the following:-
Front half of the exhaust
Flywheel
All manifolds, sensors, AFM,throttle and ignition parts
The water hoses at the front of the engine.
Wiring Loom and ECU.
Should be straightforward with the two cars side by side.
I take it the body of the S is shot.

You could....but why? Overhaul your 2.5...maybe go up to 2.7 and tune it up. Should be a better bet than added complexity of the S engine for relatively little gain.

sounds too much work

ill try and get the car transported tomorrow and see if it can go back on the road
if not ill burst it
thanks for the advice

You're better off with a freshly refurbished 8v engine than a high mileage and tired 16v engine. 8v engines give better low down torque and grunt anyway, whereas a 16v engine only really works at higher RPM.

Windscreen is smashed up on it and to the eye it looks not the best
not sure whether to break after taking the few odds and sods off it i need
