Can I retrofit AC?

Hello everyone! Porsche Newbie here [:)]

Ok to cut a long story short I have the option to buy my brothers 986 Boxster S for a very reasonable price. The car is basically brand new and has been stored for the last two and a half years but is European spec so comes without AC. Now having had AC in my last 3 cars I'm not sure I could live without it. I know it's easy to Retrofit AC to Japanese cars but can it be done to a 986? I have a feeling that if it could be done it would be some what expensive, but could anyone advise me as to what is involved and who could do such a retrofit and the likely costs involved.

Why not try it without?

I hardly ever used the A/C in either of my Boxsters (mostly in the winter for heat, rather than coolth) & your car will be a fair bit lighter without it.

looked in to it a few years ago but the people i asked all said that no one did a kit , possibly due to the cost , having run with out it the only reason i could justify for needing it is for de-misting! if the cars the right price buy it .

Thanks guy's

Yeh I will still buy it even if I can't fit AC, I'm just a bit worried that It will be difficult to sell in 3 years time. I guess most people will want it and expect it in a Boxster S.

I have been googling CoolIt but cant find any website for them, could someone post up a link or number, I'm in Sweden at the moment so no magazines to hand.

It's a MY02 and I think the basic Euro spec S's did not come with AC or full leather seats then, maybe I'm wrong?

A/C is/was alsways standard on an 'S' (for the UK - as Mark advises)

JCB..

My brother has only seen the car once and never actually used it so he could be wrong. Ether that or its an very low spec eastern European model as the import company that went bust was run by a dodgy guy from Latvia[] as I said it's a long story.[:(]

Aircon is not standard in Europe - only in the UK.

It is one of the reasons that it is more expensive over here. Another reason is Leather seats were not standard in Europe. (I actually would have prefered the alcantara ones).
