Can't believe its mine !

After much deliberation and soul searching I have bought what i consider to be one of the most desirable cars ever! It's a guards red 993 carrera (not an S), manual with 18in turbo wheels. It is a mid 96 car with varioram. It has 51K miles with full service history and documentation. Interior and exterior is mint (hard back seats etc). The icing on the cake is a million to one chance - through work I have contact with the original owner - something I only discovered after viewing the car and its V5. It seems that guards red in 993's is regarded as generally undesirable as are none S models.

Too be fair it sounds like a lovely car. Have fun enjoy it, get yourself down to le-mans & have some real fun. Its great, on that ferry with everybody else & belting down to the other side. Its what the cars & passion of them are all about.

Anyway, enjoy the car all the best with it.

Adrian,

Congratulations on your car. Mine's a black non-S . But that is exactly what I wanted. Having seen a red 993 just a week ago I must admit it's a stunning colour on a 993.

Someone on this forum has a price model and I'm sure he will give you some feedback on your price shortly. For my 2 pence worth....a year ago I would probably have been willing to part with 30K (to a dealer) for a good non-S on 51k miles (manual??, varioram, C4??) - which makes your "private" about right (or at least "right" if I was...)

Your phrase "generally undesirable" is not quite right with respect to any 993!

Enjoy! (and welcome to the forum)

Guards red on a 993 can look the dogs...had a red 993 cab once and sold it in no time at all...and bought it in less than 3hrs of it being advertised so they must be pretty desireable!

Thanks for your reply. Not got hang of forum yet. Tried to post a query re. 3rd brake light in roof spoiler not working. Its a standard option fitted from new but not same as official worshop manual one ie there are no visible screws. any ideas how its held together?

Decent miles, nice spec, manual C2 varioram. Didn't make many C2 in Varioram form so not exactly easy to find in good condition. Sounds like a good buy to me.

i looked at a nice example at camerons last yr-it does look good in guards IMHO enjoy.i think at 51k miles you hpt a good deal-saw one this week at 32k for 114k miles!!!!!

I agree with other posters comments - there ain't no such thing as an undesirable 993. As for price, it's worth whatever someone is willing to pay - if you liked it and it's the car for you then don't worry, just enjoy.

Congrats - got my 993 C2 couple of months ago and still loving it ! (and BTW - the non-S is the better body shape !)

(I know that's been debated at length elsewhere ...!)

I think I have seen every colour quoted as undesirable at some stage over the last year [:D]

I've never seen a red 993 in the 'flesh' to be able to decide one way or t'other, so until I do...pictures please [:)]

Any colour would probably be great in this car (apart from Barbie pink, perhaps[:'(]), but please be assured, the "˜non S' 993 is the equal of the S, basically with a "˜narrow' body - but beautiful all the same.

Congratulations! Enjoy![:D]

I prefer non S the sill extensions look like an after-thought and they are getting a little out of proportion (car width to length). Carrera is neater looking. Also, my garage door is only just wide enough without another 60mm of rear arches to watch!

Great colour ![8D]
I wasn't looking for Guards Red - in fact was on the list of "did not want" colour until I saw it in the flesh. Seen too many faded red cars in the past but when looked after properly, GR is a beautiful colour and befitting of a sports car.

Does your GR try its best to turn pink! Mine is ok at the moment but I know what "german red" can do without lacquer. Plastic spoiler / roof brake light was showing some signs so i did it with T-cut red colour restorer and autoglym resin and autoglm high gloss. Would you mind emailing me some photos of yours at arobinson993@tiscali.co.uk ?
Thanks,
Adrian

Adrian - you can post pictures to this thread (unless you would prefer not to ofcourse...).
Good instructions here -> http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=263490

To start us off a recent photo of one of the rear arches on mine (I don't have any others that have not been aired before...)

I was attempting to capture the results of a polishing session but I am not sure it really does!
