Can't work out what this noise is!!

Hi guys,

Have become aware of a metallic grinding noise coming from drivers side rear when I'm turning right (accelerating off roundabouts normally...). Strangely, it sounds a little like a rattly heat shield but I'm pretty sure they've all been removed from my car. Couldn't be a wheel bearing could it? Any ideas gratefully received!

Many thanks!

Andy.

Could be a small stone in the brakes. Had a similar problem recently which went on for months, gradually getting worse. Blew out brakes with compressed air etc, to no avail. Began to think a bearing was coming apart. Going slowly (10-15mph) round gentle right bends bends and roundabouts made horrible graunching noise. Eventually just popped out and disappeared when reversing.

Take out the pads. If there is a stone there it will fall out. The rears are only held in with 1 pin.Tap this out, remove the spring sheild then push the pads back a fraction and remove. Then replace. Takes about 15 minutes.

Had "probably" same problem, in my case it was a small stone lodged between the disk and the steel shield behind the disk....The sound was as if the whole transmission was coming apart.
Luckily the stony dislodged itself after a relatively short time and has not happened since..
Hope this helps,

If it is a stone, it is most likely to come out when reversing and failing that, an 'emergency stop' in reverse (assuming it got lodged when you were going forwards). That was the advice from Porsche Assist (RAC) and it worked for me.

exactly what happened to me .. I thought the car was going to break down for the first time.

I stopped, looked over it very carefully, saw nothing. started again, all quiet!
