Car alarms and immobilisers

Hi,

After months of searching, I have finally found myself a 944. It is a beautiful 1988 944 Lux in zermatt silver (although I'm not quite sure how it can be called silver). For my insurance, I am required to have a cat 1 or cat 2 alarm or immobiliser. The car has an immobiliser which was installed by Porsche on 31.07.95, which I believe is not Thatcham approved - it's the one with the sort of chip on the steering column that is inserted and then removed to make the LED stop flashing. Can anyone recommend anyone reliable to supply and fit a cat 1 or 2 system in the London area and give me a general idea of what sort of prices I should be budgeting for? I'd be most grateful for any ideas.

Thanks in advance.

Ian

For a Cat 1 (i.e. alarm and immobiliser rather than just an immobiliser which is Cat 2) you can get decent branded ones for around £350. It is important or at least recommended to have the installer completely remove whatever previous devices that may have been fitted previously to prevent any conflicts.

The Cat 2 immobiliser I have on my car is not longer Thatcham approved (the list is reviewed periodically and devices are removed and newer ones are added) but my insurance company still accept it.
