Car cover for out side ??

Hi Guys .... oh it's all new in here !!

:-/ don't like change LOL I must be getting old

OK so the 944 and the 944 S2 Cab are both fighting for inside storage space and one is going to have to lose and sit out side for the winter!

So as it's in my back garden.. I can pop a heater in there on a timer..

I am looking for recomendations for a car cover for out side storage??

I don't mind if it's not 100% water proof! but as long as it fits nice and stays on!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My S2 has been under a cover from Specialised Covers for 9 years now. It's tailored (so stays on and doesn't chafe), made from waterproof/breathable fabric, choice of colours too...I've got green, making the car not so noticeable!

Very happy, and it's done a good job of protecting the car from the elements (vital not just for bad weather, but to keep UV off the dash top!!)

They're usually at the NEC show (later this month) with special prices.....

thanks.. I am looking to come to the NEC this Sunday so that could be a bonus thanks! and Green yes... good idea!

Ouch £270

I will wait till the NEC show LOL..

My other issue is this.. I have a Coupe and a Cab.. I want one that fits both.. :-/

Before I started to garage my S2 I bought and used the large sized "Halfords" cover that I'm more than happy with. It survived last winter no problems, the elasticated front and rear ends fit perfectly and the 3 straps secure it easily and well. I always fitted it onto a clean car so no scratching... It's billed as breathable and waterproof, which seems to be the case. I don't overly promote halfords normally, but why pay more than the £50 or so it cost!

Perhaps have a word with Des', Carrera Boy on the 964 section. From what I understand he has a company that makes car covers and, good one's too from what I'm told [:)].

When I had to store my 944 outdoors, I bought and used a Covercraft Technathlon 3 cover, and it worked really well - but that was 20 years ago before I got my garage!

£270 seems very reasonable for a tailored car cover made from a properly-designed breathable fabric.

The two cars are different, so one cover won't fit them both perfectly? The difference between a coupe and a cab is only above the bonnet-rearwards line though. A cover shouldn't do any damage to the cab boot or roof I'd imagine,

I used a proper Covercraft on my first 944. They do rub on the corners in the wind and damage the paint, and I felt it trapped condensation in. On balance, if the car is outside they help a bit, but I'd say make sure to protect the paint by removing the cover when it's windy, and to vent the interior regularly.

I am not a big fan of car covers, mainly for the reasons as stated; moisture and paint damage. Personally, I would give the car a good wash, polish and a quality sealant wax - re-apply the wax every 6 months and this will preserve the paint. Again the hood can be treated with specialised products.

As I say, I've used the tailored cover for c9 years, no apparent problems with moisture and chafing. However, I can see that on a dark coloured car there might be issues. My car is white.

Mark: These covers last about 5 - 6 years (UV degradation eventually), and when I last changed they mistakenly sent out a cabrio shaped cover. No problem, courier picked it up and delivered the correct cover FOC, but it wasn't a bad fit all the same!

So far as cost is concerned, IMHO you get what you pay for, as usual. For me this was cheaper (and safer) than renting a garage.

I believe the gentleman's full name is Des' Sturdee (Carrera Boy) Mark. [:)]

I bought a Covercraft Evolution this time last year for my convertible - it is supposed to be tailored and it is , but I believe it also fits the Coupe as it was not a snug fit over the rear screen and boot lid. That aside, it fitted well, didn't chafe and kept the car clean and dry - although it is breathable rather than waterproof so you do get a little moisture under the cover which evaporates after a while.

Cost around £230-250 I recall - bought at the NEC show - or rather ordered there and arrived a few weeks later.

This is the spec....

I now have a garage so may consider selling it if you are interested.
