Car electrocuting me!!

Rickster

New member
When i get out of the car and reach to shut the door, the metal skin of the door gives me an unpleasant electric shock!

Can anyone explain this or offer any help? I suppose i could just drive forever......[8D]

Thanks!

It's only static, nothing to worry about, (just unpleasant as you say). Some cars/people seem to be more susceptible to it than others and it tends to be worse in dry conditions.

Not a lot you can do about it really, other than have those nasty dangly things at the back that are supposed to reduce static/travel sickness. I think they only thing they really do is make your car look daft [:D]

Don't wear nylon underpants either! [:D][:D]

Not much you can do, but you could try taking the key out of the ignition, hold the key at the base of the metal blade, and then touch the tip of the key on the metal skin of the door. This will discharge the static through the key and the spark will be at the tip of the key and not the tip of your finger.

just did a google search and two sites had this advice..

To avoid shocks when getting out of the car -
HOLD the metal door frame before you get out
KEEP HOLDING as you get out, until you are fully out of the car.
It's easy with practice!
