Really interesting day amongst some amazing classic cars. We started off from the TT Grandstand where we all met. 3 Porsches started off, with 7 members, but only 2 of our cars made it all the way. Al was sidelined, although it wasn't any problem with the Porsche Turbo S.
Not quite as impressive as a Manx Tour line-up, but we made up for it with our Le Mans starting positions
Direction sheets to Bob Riding's Paddock were given out. After last years event we were expecting something interesting and we weren't dissapointed. Quite a few back roads were involved and although no high speeds were reached the scenery was stunning.
We were following Rolls Royces, Jaguars, Bentleys, an Austin Healey and many others. There had been a comment that the Porsches probably hadn't got out of second gear. Having said that, the rest of the party almost lost Julian and I at one stage. When we had to drive over loose chippings we were going slower than the classics, not because of traction problems but because we didn't want any paint chips. It didn't take long to catch up thought. One road, which is used during the Manx Rally, had scars in the tarmac where the cars bottom out. I was happy to be following Julian as I knew his Turbo's front end was lower than my Carrera 2, but there was no problem.
When we eventually got to the field we formed up in a square and broke out the chairs, blankets and picnics.
Bob invited us to see his car collection which is great, his earliest being a 1924 Bentley.
Something a bit more modern was there too with this GTR proving that a 911 has quite a lot of legroom in the back.
Great day and we were so lucky with the weather. Heavy rain in the morning but the sun shined on us for the event.
Hopefully we will get chance to do it all again next summer.
