Car Fest North 2013 Oulton Park

Good question! I tried to get tickets this morning, but they all seem to have gone. On the website they seem to be encouraging Car Clubs to display.

I thought it would be good for the club to be there. I spoke to Porsche club at lunchtime and at that time they had no plans to attend. North Wales would certainly be interested although, given its the weekend following the Porsche Classic at Silverstone it may, in the event be difficult to recruit attendees to man a stand. Nick

Could this be put on to see what the interest would be for R5 & R6 member to help out / attend, if Porsche Club say yes.

I made some investigations last year. Thanks to help from my RO I ended up being offered a plot. The problem was IIRC that they wanted our club's 7 "best" cars @ £60 per car, payment for all required up front with an obligation to be on plot for each day from early until late o'clock. I quite fancied going but wasn't going to cough up £420 personally in the hope of filling it! With a bit more notice (it was all a bit last minute last year) I reckon we could have pulled it off. Tickets will soon be unobtainable if not already and there is a good saving by going as a club. Given that you are providing an attraction to the paying guests, you do wonder why you should pay at all though, it wouldn't be much of a Carfest without any cars...

My own opinion is that carfest is one of those hyped up events driven by Mr Evans and celebrity friends. It'll be more about the music and sideshows rather than the cars. Access to Oulton on BTCC weekends is bad enough, it'll be bedlam round there with an event as big as this.

Sort of agree Steve - not aimed at 'your average car enthusiast', as it is after all a fund raising event for Children In Need. However Chris Evans (like him or not) is a petrol head so the event has the making of a great do. I tried to muster some enthusiasm in R5 last year - but the effort was being (rightly) focused on Arley Hall. I have asked the R5 committee their thoughts this year and waiting for a response. I'd gladly pay £60 to attend as part of PCGB, and be willing to co-ordinate with 6 other like minded individuals. Graham

Graham, surprisingly, I quite like Evans! [:D] And there is no doubt that his full on style is the reason the Carfests sold out within an hour or two. He's a helluva salesman and definitely good for CIN. If you manage to get a space, keep a keen eye on your P&J with all those people around. [;)]

Not sure I agree - We went to car fest North, they did a sprint to show the cars in action, lots of interactive stuff. Very family orientated, one of the few events I could take the family to, that we all enjoyed. Might not be completely hard core, but a proper car event. I'd go again. Plus Chris E was there in the talking cars with the fans. Louise Goodman did the commentary and they had some great cars and drivers, it was like a mini goodwood FoS.

It seems like a packed itinerararary - we're there both days and camping (well we've got a camping pass - whether we camp or not may be governed by the great British summer). Graham, it's very good of you to volunteer to coordinate / liaise regarding a display. If the Region or Club decide to put some cars on display I'm happy to pay £60 to show mine. Best, Fraser.

You're welcome to disagree Hugh...as said it's only my opinion. [;)] I won't be going anyway as I've got a trackday booked for Donington that weekend. [:)]
