Car giving errors after battery jump start

Hi there.
This is my first time using this forum, so apologies in advance if I'm too verbose. I have a 2008 Cayenne Turbo S. It's had it timing chain replaced and just needs some new brake pads and disks. What I've noticed, in particular when it's raining, is this (this happened a few days ago, and also in late November last year):
  • Car started fine.
  • Drove around 25 miles and turned off engine.
  • After 50 minutes, went to start car but it did not turn over first time. Second time fine.
  • Drove car approximately 2 miles to petrol station and turned off engine.
  • Car started fine.
  • Drove another 4 miles to supermarket and turned off engine.
  • Returned and car started fine.
  • Drove another 6 miles and parked car, turning off engine.
  • Car would NOT start at all.
  • Jump started car with battery pack first time.
  • Drove car the 20 mile journey home getting multiple ABS failure errors plus a PSM failure (which I never get!).
On the previous occasion, I did not drive home, but went to a supermarket. Turned off car and then, on returning, the car started fine, and I drove home with no more errors.

Any ideas or suggestions would be kindly appreciated. I'm guessing it's the same battery it's had since new, so it may be the battery, as I don't think the alternator is an issue.

Many thanks in advance.

Hi,

Unless you can run some Porsche-specific diagnostics which may give you a clue as to what’s causing your starting problem you’re in the dark. However as a first step I’d be inclined to replace your battery - or at least get it checked-out - because modern vehicles are very susceptible to battery condition and it sounds as though you started the engine quite a few times in a relatively short period, thus depleting the battery. A dodgy battery can throw-up some weird and apparently unrelated error messages.

ABS/PSM faults can signify a dodgy battery./ poor charging/ bad electrical connections. First rule of Porsche ownership - don't panic. Start with the basics: battery age/condition; earth connections to battery and engine; positive connection to starter. If it's had the engine out for the timing chain replacement then there's always the possibility that something's not as tight as it should be.

Many thanks for that. Pretty sure the battery may be the original one, in which case that could be a potential cause for this. Will check. I'll also look at connections, as it seems to occur when it's raining (at least, I think it does).

Do you have a sunroof? - If so - would advise a google for Cayenne sunroof drain blocked - all kinds of weird stuff happens if water meets electrics ....

Aah ... yes I do. Although I have not used it for years. Still, it may account for why this stuff is happening when it's raining! Will check. Thanks.
