Car Judders at low revs

Hi There,
Does anyone know where to look here. The Carrera 3.0 judders at row revs from start or 2nd gear up to 1800rpm. You need to dip the clutch to try and smooth it out

Also when you stop at traffic the car can cut out, idle dropping and red light on RPM pod flashes

Cheers

Hi Mckone,
A little more information please.
1 Do you think the issue is engine related? does the engine rev smootly and return to idle as it should?
2 Does the clutch feel like it's taking up evenly or is it jerky. How old is the clutch
3 Do you think the issue is nothing to do with the engine/ clutch could it be wheel balance/ drive shaft related?
Cheers
John

Hi John

On the clutch: 3rd 4th and 5th gear change smoothly, It does not slip, when you are in traffic and go from are in 1st or go to 2nd at low revs. The previous owner (2 weeks ago) said he got the clutch adjusted

On cutting out: The engine does rev smoothly. However when driving to a halt sometimes the engine revs dip, red light flashes and it cuts out
There is a Alarm drain on the battery (i cant find it to turn it off with key), It has cut out on me twice at stationary position and on a few attempts started up but sounded like the battery was near flat

If it's not clutch related, make sure the battery is healthy and the alternator is doing its job. If that checks out, see if your CIS system has a decel valve (vacuum regulator) the symptoms of a failure with this component are as you describe, check the vacuum hose connections to it and your vacuum connections in general.

Dave,
Just a thought, your idle speed should be around 950rpm how does this compare to yours, are the exhaust gasses at exit from the tail pipe rhythmic or are they erratic ( splashy)? Erratic would suggest a weak mixture which could also cause stalling on run down. I am assuming your mixture setting in done manually.

Dave,
Further to what Bones has said I have posted the workshop manual method for checking the alternator and voltage regulator on the current post for "Charging Light"
Cheers
