Car Park Dent! Grrrr!

Went shopping in Reading today, thought I'd take the Porsche as it was nice and dry and the car came back from having the belts and chain done yesterday, so I'd not driven it for a week. It was also only a month ago that I got the car back after getting the rusty sills sorted out, so it's looking really good.

Parked up in the multistorey, miles away from any other cars, as usual, and came back to find this;

A nice sharp crease in the front wing! Goodness knows what must have hit hit (Landrover perhaps?) but there was no note or anything (of course!).

The front PU has a small scuff, but is okay, it's just the wing that needs work. Do you think I could get the crease sorted for less than my £250 insurance excess??

Arse!

I'd say it's worth getting a couple of quotes, unlikely to be less than £250 but it may be less than the increase in your premium over the next few years as a result of losing NCB & having a fault claim on your record.

Feel for you happened to me three times no note years ago people would own up and leave there details not anymore its the sign of the times .
It will not get any better either people in general do not care anymore
its sod you jack I am alright .

Sorry rant over it just gets my goat when these things happen .

That looks very similar to the one in mine that happened week before last. I got a few guys to look at it. My mate who works in a body shop said it could be pulled out and re-painted. He quoted me £150 to do the work. Another body shop said they could also pull it out but the quote was £350 and one said £250. One other guy said it needs a new wing, but the cost of wings is scary.

This is sooo annoying []. if I did something like this to someone elses car I would have to own up. I wonder if its worth trying one of these mobile dent repairers like dent devils etc[8|] you may save some dosh.

Another thing that bugs me...how many times do you come back to your car in a carpark and find some git has opened their door onto your car causing these orrible small creases........ even when you try to park away from other cars []

I think it will need to be pulled out, filled and repainted. Will try some local bodyshops tomorrow to get some quotes and see how I get on.

Did think about dent devils, but not sure how they'd get on with the painting etc..

Justin.

yea, prob not very well, but it could be worth getting them to get the dent out and then getting the paint licked somewhere else?

Hmmm. I had a not-dissimlar dent in the front of my S2 when a prat pulled out in front of me (and then lied through gritted teeth about it.) OPC handled it on his insurance and it cost well over a grand. (And it went back twice to have the work corrected.)

If that happened to me (left in a car park and no note) I'd be livid. See SEE YA's comments above. Sorry to hear the story.

ETA: Talk to Paul Smith (Diver944 on here) as he runs a modile bodywork repair company, and if he can't do the work for you then he certainly could offer sensible advice and recommendations.

OIi.

Recently had samlller dent fixed same place at Modern Paint 01189714445 round the corner from Northways

He told me he basically quotes £200 panel plus vat then up and down from there so £200-£250+vat if you havent got protected no claims then I would DIY

Been on my hols [8D] so sorry for the tardy reply.

That's not the sort of job for Dent Devils, they don't do paintwork and to get it invisible the dent would generally need to be circular in the middle of a panel and no larger than a 10 pence piece.

That is the sort of dent for a bodyshop. It will need beating to improve as much as possible then a small skim of filler followed by painting the entire wing (and possibly the PU to get a good colour match). You are looking in the region of £300 at least for a good job [:(]

A dent on n/s rear wing..and A FCKCING BLACK STRIPE FROM FRONT OR REAR WING TO REAR OF REAR WING..it's like another human being(not owning a classic car IF IT MATTERS) just can't stand the fact that i...............................................

This gets worse and worse Axl [:(]

I can't belive the bad luck you are having after all that time and preparation the car got for Silverstone [X(]

arumdevil makes a very good point. most multistories have cctv these days but it won't be kept for long. failing to stop after an accident is an arrestable offence these days. If you can get hold of the cctv and spot the other vehicle and its reg, pass it over to the Police who will be obliged to investigate for you. You never know, the other vehicle could even be insured...

Thanks for your helpful replies guys.
I did try the car parks' CCTV but the (not very helpful) woman I spoke with said she'd had a look at that area of the car park and couldn't quite see my car...

Have had two quotes so far - one from my local bodyshop (who are in the midst of restoring a 2.7 RS) for £330 cash, and one from the local Mercedes-Benz bodyshop for £630.00 inc VAT.

I have also asked Dave from Daytona to have a look (have sent him some pics in the post) as he did my new sills a month or so ago - he's in Stevenage so a wee drive away but it's worth it if he's a good price as I know it will be a top job.

Thanks,
Justin.

Nightmare Justin sorry to hear this. So sad that very few have the balls to take responsibility for there actions and incompetence. I had an incident a few months ago in a supermarket car park when some twit wedged a shopping trolley under the back of mine. Luckily some old boy stopped me from reversing straight over it and saved god knows what sort of damage. I havent got a clue why or what makes an individual do something like that. Hope the cost isnt too painfull.
