Car Protect Warranty

Thanks to glewis (a fellow 550 owner) I have tried www.carprotect.co.uk today and was very impressed with them and their customer service (don't often get that these days).

They quoted me £701 for 24 months for their 5 star cover. This also included Tyre insurance.

You can make as many claims as you like up to the value of your car in any 12 month period. The maximum claim for any one repair is £3000.

They like you to pay by direct debit but you can pay up front for the whole lot. You can cancel at any time and get a refund pro rata if you pay up front. You can also transfer the warranty if you change your car or transfer it to somebody else if you sell your car.

Before I sign on the dotted line and hand over my hard earned cash I'd like to ask you guys a question. Do you think £3000 is enough for any claim taking into account such things as an IMS failure.

Thanks

Forgot to add the guy I spoke to was called Stefan, 0114 2565 286 will bypass the main switchboard and get you through to him.

I also got a better quote from phoning rather than on line.

Thanks again

I think I rather unlikely that £3k would match half of an IMS failure, unless you are very lucky and catch it before any piston/cylinder/valve damage occours. Through an OPC, with no "goodwill" from Porsche GB, you'd be looking at no less than£8k I believe.

Exactly - most IMS failures mean a lunched engine. Taking the old one apart to salvage any serviceable parts (and putting back on the new bits) would probably cost more than the new engine.

I'm not even sure Porsche would sell the block halves etc on their own...[&o]

Thanks Mark and Spyderman for the comments.

Can I just ask, i have seen a few threads on here and on boxa.net but just how common is a IMS failure and can you tell if its about to happen.
To be honest it does give me a scare.

Thanks again

I reckon its no more than 2% - but that's just a guess based on the forums, which do tend to highlight such issues, and from what companies like Autofarm and Hartech say.
