Car stereo replacement

childish

New member
My Becker Traffic Pro broke about two weeks ago and I have managed to get an identical replacement off good old Ebay!! How hard is it to remove and install the new stereo? I have Carrera 4 reg 1999. Has any one done it before and have pictures of the job?

On the Becker you need the two flat key-like pieces of metal that come with the unit. Insert these into the slots at the bottom corners of unit and it pulls out. Then just unplug the cables at back. Plug them into new unit and push new unit back in.

You also need the "code" for the new unit.

If you don't have the keys, visit a car audio shop and talk nicely to the fitter.

The alarm will sound when you pull it out, so best to disconnect the battery. See the battery replacement thread in the Technical Articles section for details.

Also, check the new one has a piece of insulating plastic in the same place on the side - this is to stop the alarm "beeping" when you lock the car.
If it's not there (I don't know - is it standard on Beckers?) then a pice of insulating tape will work.

Of course if your Traffic Pro was fitted aftermarket the contact may have been disconnected instead...

Thanks for all the advice guys. The radio was successfully installed about an hour ago and working fine. cheers[:)]

Can anyone help me, please? My stereo is not working properly - the lights on the unit are not working and I cannot get the button which transfers from radio to CD player to work.

Is the stereo on the way out or is there a simple solution? If all is nearly lost - how much to replace the stereo systyem? Should I think about a non-Porsche stereo/satnav system? And where should I get this installed?

Over to the helpful PCGB members for guidance and advice.

There is a sequence for re-setting it. A Porsche Centre should be able to tell you (I don't know it [&o]).

When you find it tell us what it is?

Julian - so, usually, are Man U [:-]

Good luck with the radio - I remember an old thread where someone replaced the Porsche unit with a decent system including sat nav for about £700 but sold the original unit on ebay for about £500. I think the link was for the ipod connection stuff.

Happy to help - speak in May 09!

Dear Techies

I think that I have found out what the problem might be. When I use the cigarette lighter to re-charge my mobile phone, the radio is adversely affected; reception dies on some pre-sets. Could there be a relationship between the connections which are very close to each other? If so, does anyone know what I can do to make the radio and CD changer work properly?

Thanks.

And I really do support Arsenal FC!
