Car window issues

Hi all,

I have recently replaced my window regulator (posted on here about it)

All is fine, but when I close my door, I really have to slam it to get it shut the window up (you know, as it has dropped to open the door, it should raise when it is shut)

If I just close it normally, or even quite hard, the lights stay on as if the door is open and the window remain 1cm lower than it should be. I had to slam it 5-6 times last night to get it to shut.

Is this just a case of some WD40 in the hinge will help, or have the garage not connected up something right, as it seems to be having trouble sensing that the door is closed properly.

Hopefully I explained this correctly - let me know if not :)

Thanks again all.
Sam

It sounds like the door isn't closing fully, and the latch isn't closing the microswitch contacts to tell the system the door is closed. I would think it just needs an adjustment of the striker plate on the door shut. Or maybe they didn't get the door card back on properly, and it is stopping the door from closing.

Hi Richard,

Where is the striker plate located? - Anything I can do to try and resolve this? ;)

Door-card looks like its on fine - but will double check!

Thanks very much for your response!

Item 12 on the attached. It is screwed to the door shut - you can't miss it. The door lock engages in the loop on the striker plate. Use a fine tip 'permanent' pen to mark the current position of the plate. Loosen the screws, and move the plate about 1mm to the outside of the car. Tighten the screws, and try it. Adjust it so that you have to close the door firmly for it to shut, but not have to slam it.

Or take it back to the indy and get them to do it. I'm sure that if you explain the problem they will do it for nothing, as it is a 5 minute job.

Hi Richard,

Thanks very much - really useful stuff.

I will have a crack at that asap - sounds like it will almost certainly do the trick! :)

Hi All,

Honestly, I have looked and found the latch that I need to move - but my star keys don't fit in the screw heads, and I have searched google and halfords for the right kind of tool and cannot find it.

What on earth is the tool called that has enough spokes to fit in these screws. THey are like star keys but have more spokes!

Thanks so much
Sam

They are 12-point star bits, also called spline drive. I have a set of all sorts of Torx and security bits which has them in it. Something like this: http://www.tooled-up.com/Product.asp?PID=25542

My passenger side window goes all the way down so it can't be seen... When the drivers side is put right down there is aout two inches of glass showing!

Any ideas why - presumably needs mechanism tweaking? If so how?

Someone has fitted a Boxster window regulator to your car. They are essentially the same, but the bottom stops are in a different position:
