I have a 991 on a 2014 i have only had it 3 weeks and only had the chance to use it once it's been in my garage under cover. I tried to start it up and it fired first time then stopped and now it's just trying to start but not cranking correctly it's only done 17443 miles and has had its service at 14200 any ideas

If it's sat there for 3 weeks and not on a battery conditioner my money would be on the battery. But, as Ralph says, the AA man will tell you why!

Thank you all for your advice I have just fitted a new battery and all is well. Thinking about going to north wales for a run out

That's good. Mind you, charging the old one might well have worked. It wasn't that old! As Terry above says, if you are leaving the car for extended periods between drives then you need a Ctek conditioner.

Did you fit the battery yourself? I remember reading somewhere that you have to use a system tester to inform the ecu that a new battery has been fitted, is that correct?

I have just had a new battery fitted to my 981 Cayman by my PC. I bought the battery which was exactly the same item as OEM from design911. There was one difference in that it lacked a Porsche part number and serial number. The lack of the latter confused the technician who warned me that I might lose functions without the car knowing it had a new battery via PIWIS. In the event there were no problems at all so to answer your question, you don't need an OEM battery or PIWIS.

the car will think the old battery is still fitted and charge the new battery at the old battery rate, you need to tell the car it has a new battery so it will reset the battery conditioning /monitor on the car , and could also cause the stop start function not to work as it should.also not being a genuine Porsche part will that effect the warranty on the car ? I work on engine electrical systems for ford and jaguar.
