Carbon Bonnet

Just a heads up for anyone after a nice after market bonnet, there's one on ebay here. Having seen it in the flesh I think it's a really nice bit of kit and a bit of a bargain at its start price. It's light and nice 'n rigid.

Disclaimer: [;)] I hope this doesn't break any forum rules, whilst I know the seller (it's at the bodyshop where my car is) I have no vested interest in this and did not know it was on eBay till I came across the advert.

I'll admit that if I had the room to store it then it would have sold ages ago (and I'd be after a carbon spoiler like the one on Fen's car to complete the look [:D]).

It would look rubbish on your white car.

Whereas it would look ace on a blue car with black wheels, black mirrors, black spoiler and black splitter [;)]

It's always hard to tell from pictures but the finish looks a bit questionable from what I can see. Having said that, seems as though I might be looking for another one as the guy that was 'fixing' mine seems to have gone missing [][][] so perhaps I should watch the bidding. [:)]

Oh no, what a nightmare Patrick!

The finish is pretty good from what I've seen of it - it was really dusty when I saw it. We did wonder if it actually was a GT racing piece originaly as it's very nicely put together, but in hindsight here's the usual 'tape' edging that GT Racing products have, but otherwise looks like it should come up really well with a little effort.

Here's a pic I grabbed a while back, please excuse the dust, they were busy sanding my car at the time. [:)]

Peter,

Mine is in for restoration and is not going to be solely a track car. I want a 'spot on liveable with every day' finish if you get where I'm coming from. Am I likely to achieve the same fit as the original with a part such as this? I've seen some carbon bonnets which are a poor fit. Doing a rear seat delete as a part of the work and this would shed a few more pounds.

Hi Ian,
I've not seen the fit of this panel myself, but the quality and rigidity of what I've seen suggests it should be a pretty good fit, the difficult area with an after market bonnet seems to be how well they follow the curve (in terms of height) at the sides of the bonnet. I'm not sure if the bodyshop tried this bonnet on my car (as much as an experiment to ensure that my wings were positioned correctly), they said they were going to but I never did follow this up, it's worth asking Simon (the seller) if they got around to this.

You don't need bonnet pins with one like this (although I would recommend them for high speed use) so it should be a really quick and simple job to fit (although you will want to cut some holes for the washer jets, but that is dead easy).

Thanks Peter. I've mailed Simon and am waiting to hear. Sounds very interesting if a bit of an extravagance. I'm definitely enjoying the 'whilst I'm at it...' approach to the restoraion of the car but my wallet is suffering a tad.

Just add the nightmares together Peter. Wonder what the collective noun is? []

Perhaps it's hard to tell from the picture so I'll reserve judgement until one of you guys buy it and post better pics. [:)]
