Carbon fibre centre console

My centre console is quite badly scratched and I am considering replacing it with a carbon fibre one.
I've tried to find somewhere to get it repainted in the rubbery finish that was already finished in but cannot find a good option.

Can anyone let me have a good photo of a carbon fibre console fitted in their car so I can get a good look at the final look.
I'm very torn between keeping the car original or making some subtle changes to brighten up the interior.

The other consideration is a silver console, but not sure this wuould look right on a car with no other silver on it.
Do the silver ones scratch easy as I'm assuming that they are only painted and lacquered ove rthe plastic substraight.

I would welcome other peoples thoughts on these options.

Thanks again
Dave.

Here's one from my old 996 C4 - recommended upgrade, it never scratched or went dull.

Stunning!

Can't work out if that's a compliment or you're having a snide pop at me, young Rod [8D]

How's the splitter, btw?

No lol, I really do think a CF centre console is a stunning upgrade, really lifts the interior (especially in black/black cars) without looking garish.I didn't even realise you had it in your C4!

And as for the splitter I was just going to email you to tell you - 10 minute job - there is no way that baby is going anywhere now! Awesome, thank you very much Nick![:)]

Don't get to cocky though. Mine was slightly dislodged by decapitating a rabbit one night at speed. The screws can also work a bit loose so it's worth checking now & again. All that said, the current splitter has been on for over a year [:D]

Thanks for the great pictures.
They have helped me decide to replace it.

Please dont misunderstand what I'm going to say next......

Has anyone used the CF wrap for this sort of thing.
I dont want to use it on the console, I was thinking of using it on the dash insert strips.
I'm reluctant to purchase the CF strips as they are simply 3 narrow pieces and wondered if the wrap stuff was any use and whether it looks OK or totally naff.

Thanks again for helping to make my mind up to spend loads of money on console - the bank manager has also rung me to says thanks [:)]

Are you old enough to remember Fablon? If you are, 'nuff said [:'(] If not, ask your parents [:)]

Basically, don't, just don't.

There was a guy called 'Lefteris', from Greece, on another forum, who did a lot of CF wrapping of parts on his Boxster - not film wrap, actual CF that he wrapped/resined etc and was then baked in an autoclave. It looked very very high quality. He used to sell the various bits n bobs - he did have a 'shop' on ebay.

He may be going by another name nowadays, or could be completely off the scene - google might help locate him or his previous experiments as an possible solution to you search for an less expensive upgrade. A new unpainted console from Porsche used to be ridiculously cheap (something like £60) so it might be worth a punt to buy ane and get a local bodyshop to spray it silver / body colour as a trial. I know Berny did his own years ago, couple of coats of primer, few of bodycolour and 5/6 layers of lacquer - it wasn't 100% in terms of gloss/finish but for £80 it was near enough !!

A quick search for 'lefteris porsche carbon' came up with this site, which at least shows what he achieved on various parts..

What colour is your interior... I replaced mine with a lapis blue one (colour coding also looks great!) so have a graphite grey console (in great nick) for which I'm open to offers. You could use it as is, or to try wrapping, or colour-coding.

Hi Robert,

I'd be more than happy to buy the console off you so I can look at options.
I have no idea what to offer you though.

Could you PM me an idea of what you would be looking for.

Cheers
Dave.
