Cardiff independant garage

Some months ago there was a post about a independent garage in Cardiff. Foolishly I did not take the details. Can any one help.

Hi Martyn. I'm not sure if you mean RS Porsche? If so it's David (I think) on 02920 706944 and http://www.rsporsche.com/
I've not tried him yet - but am going to in March for my next service. The report s that I've heard are very good and - having spoken to him on the 'phone (at some length!!) he seems very switched on.
Hope this helps.

Adrian.

Hi Mart. I can recommend PJ motors in Fairwater, run by Phil & Martin Pearce. They`ve been repairing Porsches for 20 years and are good enough to do the work the local OPC can`t handle on older models,I know they rebuilt a 928 engine the other year ( I think it was the last rhd 928 produced and had a casting fault in the block) and the factory supplied a new block and warrantied their work! They charge a fraction of OPC labour charges because they don`t have a fancy premises and only use original parts.I would say that someone being ex OPC is no great recommendation these days as they only seem to do servicing and changing complete assemblies and probably base their rates on OPC rates which are set to subsidise labour rates inside the M25 .
hope this is helpful,
jr.

I used RS Porsche last year, punctual, reasonably priced and keeps you informed. My car was transformed after the major service and I intend to go back this year.
I understand he has taken on extra help and now specialises in Porsche only. He must be having a lot of interest.
Incidentally there is a drop down menu on the front page of R14 which allows you to view a history of past mails.
Good luck

There is a relatively new independent specialist in Plye Nr Bridgend, a few of my work colleague and I have used him and the knowledge and service is second to none, seems very competitive on price as well

Edited to say he is also an ex OPC fitter

Agree with these comments. Dave carried out a major service on my 3.2 last April and advised on and sorted a couple of issues I wasn't really aware of. Has a good knowledge of the cars and knows what's needed to fix things properly. Good communicator and also looks after your car when it is there, which is very important to me.

Cheers,
Peter

Don't totally agree with the comments about ex OPC in this case, The guy at RS has a great knowledge of the earlier cars because he is from that era so is not just a 'fitter' he worked on cars which could be 'repaired' the modern Porsches often leave you with no option but to replace a whole unit because it can't be taken apart its not that they are being lazy and aren't repairing it.

RS hasnt got a fancy place, its clean, modern and tidy and fit for the job, the rates are very reasonable, he will also use parts according to your budget, so you can specify genuine if you like.
