CARGRAPHIC GT SYSTEM

Hi Lads, I am currently going to fit some cargraphic extractor manifolds with heat exchangers, coupled with 100 cell
race cats, already have small tech art cup mufflers, has anybody run this set up? and is there an issue with noise levels,
would the installation of the extractor manifolds increase noise levels from standard RS manifolds?
the current set up of cup mufflers, 100 cell race cats and standard manifolds is around 106dcb however I have fitted
some perferated pipe tig welded to the olive between the muffler and tailpipe which should have reduced noise levels
down slightly to below 105dcb, was wondering with the spaghetti type manifold will raise the dcb back up to levels

My 64RS has this Cargraphic spagetti manifold and system but don't think it approaches 105. I have no cats. Don't know how different to a 993 it may be

I run full cargraphic N/GT system, noise level 105db static, often good for a warning but passes drive by, I cant see that headers would make much difference to final db, would say thats down to the mufflers.....could be wrong though

It Depends if its the gt or ngt system,if bigger diameter headers than your standard ones fitted,it will probably produce more noise, and less power. What diameter are you proposing.
Just for the odd problem track, can you not fit a set of standard 993 silencers, takes about 20 mins per side.Simon from porsche apart sells them for around100 a pair.

Hi Paul, I think it will be the GT system, the manifolds are 42mm diameter with heat exchangers, I will take my original
RS mufflers just in case a noise issue occurs, these techart cup mufflers may be the problem, very light and pipework
straight through cylinderical casing, with spaghetti manifolds, 100 cell race cats, and sports mufflers, do you think it
would benefit from a live remap or would this not really effect the balance of the set up, not forgetting a 342 bhp
dyno reading with standard manifolds, cat and mufflers.

42mm is the smaller one,so should not get any more noise.
I would say deff get a live remap,to see if you can get any advantage out of them. The problem to get more power you need more air and fuel to flow, and also to get the torque band correct for you.Do you have contacts to do this,i know of 2 oop north,Colin at 9m and Wayne.
You may well be suprised of the little effect these will give you,and unless remapped may well loose you power.
The noise will be down to smaller silencers fitted,to get them quieter you cant beat volume in the silencers,so fitting standard back on, may well be the best option for noise, but not quality of sound!
Having been through all the trials and costs vs power etc,the factory standard headers are pretty dam good.
They were pretty fussy at oulton last year, put a red line on the tacho with some tape a bit lower than 6800,say 6200.
Paul

I have to agree with Paul about the risk of losing power with that set up, particularly without a remap. It might not be peak power, but torque seems to be hit by this sort of thing unless a fair amount of other work is done.

As for Oulton Park, I personally found them not too bad. If you are well over, you are in trouble but when they tested me, I only revved to 4200 rpm (nobody watched!) and got 105db so have to assume I was actually well over. They never pulled me off the track. I would be a little careful how far you rev to!

Thanks Paul, I know of Wayne, will give him a bell, I will get some cargraphic sports boxes to reduce noise levels,
shame really the tech art cup mufflers sound superb, anybody wanting these cup mufflers get in touch, I dont think they will be a noise issue running on standard RS cat.

Last Oulton Park track day I was tested at 106dcb, standard manifolds, 100 cell race cats and tech art mufflers,
with the addition of spaghetti manifolds I suspect this will only make matters worse, just can't risk it turning up on the day
and getting knocked back, so the mufflers will have to go.[]
