Carlinkit wireless connector for apple car play

Hi all. First post, with a question. I’ve purchased one of the aforementioned in order to eliminate the hard wired connection between my iPhone and the 718 GT4. It’s not that I’m too lazy to connect the phone. It’s the fact that the connector hole is so bunged up with rubbish, that I can seldom get it to work. Anyway, I can’t get the Carlinkit device to find my phone. Bluetooth is enabled on the phone, as required. The Carlinkit seems to be communicating with something -partially, as it comes up on the car screen along with a search prompt button. When I touch the screen, the search icon flickers briefly but clearly, is not searching. Likewise, my phone isn’t seeing anything asking to pair. I’m stuck. Ideas anyone?

if its anything like the one I have it

connects To a WiFi network the adapter creates not via Bluetooth. If you have Wi-Fi turned off or if you haven’t connected to the WiFi network that its created you won’t be connected.

I’ve had a couple of these, the first just stopped working after approx 12 months (seemed to stop after an update, when trouble shooting the consensus was that if it’s working then don’t do an update). On a positive note the 2nd one has worked faultlessly for well over 12 months.
