Just taken delivery of a tub of victoria concours carnauba wax.
I have heard excellent reviews of this wax.
I rinsed the car with the hose, then washed the car with a mitt.
I then dried the car, and polised it by hand with the meguires stage 2, which didnt make any differance, I then polished it again with autoglym super resin polish.
And i then put on a layer by hand of the victoria, but no differance again.
Am i doing something wrong? as it is supposed to give it a wet look shine.
best regards.

I am about t embark on a polishing regime myself and am going to follow the advice here:

In the past I have used Zymol carnauba wax with excellent results and a long lasting mirror shine. The dirt just rolls off of the car. However, you will need to clean off all previous polishes, I used Zymol HD clense but will be trying clay bar on my Boxster. So your problem may be surface preparation not the wax performance.

That's interesting what you say about carnauba wax, because I have friend that uses it on his E Class Merc with almost anal addiction and to be honest cant see any difference either. Been using Maguiars products for some time now. Used to use Autoglym wax etc, it look good for about 4 miles until it rained, then it washed it all off. Been very impressed with Maguiars though. One Maguiars product I was really impressed with was the "Clay Kit" I did one wing first exactly per the instructions, results were stunning! Then did the rest of the car, the paint work felt as silky as a baby's bum!!! A number of M1, M6 runs later it still looks good, the rain just makes the dirt run off. Lots cheaper than Zymol too "¦. Give it a go

I bought a pot of Zymol a few years back and still have a half full tub in the fridge, yes I keep it in the fridge. My experience is if you can get the sort of finish you describe with the clay then you can preserve it for a long time with the wax. My 944 used to last a good year and the car had to live outside. Just a rinse with the hose would see most dirt come off. The wax just preserves the nice finish rather than creating it.

mmmm .......... interesting .......didnt realise it lasts that long...... I think I'l go around to my anal friend and see if he'll give me dob for a couple of pints !!! I'm willing to try it, just that it costs quite a few spondoolies, but there again so did the car []........ cheers for that ......[:)]

The wax is only the protection - only a good polish will increase depth of shine - Megs stage 2 is normally quite good, either you have good paint to start with or its not aggressive enough to tackle the swirl marks or other issues you have in the paint.

I'd ask for some advice on www.detailingworld.co.uk

as mentioned previously, clay bar it first then apply several coats of carnuba .my detailer does this twice a year( with zymol that i keep in my fridge!) and inbetween it just needs a rinse to keep the mirror surface[:D]

Just starting to sort out my newly acquired black 993 RS with Swissvax kit (very similar to Zymol), hose down, clay bar, CLEANER FLUID MEDIUM, followed by Carnauba. I have simply done the aerofoil so far, it is definitely shinier than the surrounding paintwork, but the key is the cleaner fluid (3 grades depending on state of your paintwork) which cuts back the surface film before immediately applying the carnauba. I may repeat the whole process on the aerofoil as I was too gentle with the cleaner fluid I think, before I press on with the rest of the car.

You do need to be careful with "cleaner fluid" on sharp corners / door edges etc though as it can wear the paint thin if you apply the same pressure to a small surface area! Also do not apply it to Armourfend. I would not mix other polishes with Carnaubu - best to strip back old stuff with cleaner fluid to get rid of other talcuum based polishes and apply Carnaubu alone. It is hard work though ! [:-]

Drive ??? what's driving ............sorry must go, and tuck my baby up for the night [8D] !!!!! (only kidding [;)])

Hi, can you tell me what cleaner fluid you use, and thanks to the rest for the replies, this is what the forum is all about.
cheers.

Cleaned my Boxster today. I have had it about 6 weeks and not had a chance to wash it for about 3 weeks due to weather and work commitments. When I got the car the dealer had polished it up to a stunning shine. I stood back today and none of the water was beading up after this short time. When I Zymol coated my 944 (see up the page), it lived outside and even after a year water would still bead up over most of it. My conclusion is the standard product used on the car hasn't lasted and is providing no protection from the elements so is probably nowhere near the value of a tub of Zymol Carnauba wax.

just to add to colin - zymol has produced the best results and as stated the rain just runs off , however it all comes down to prep and getting the procedure in correct order, older cars will need to be clayed first to take off all traces of other product! a tub should last a few yrs! i guess it all comes down to the individuals choice . regards

Are you sure the clay bar is supposed to remove the old wax? I was under the impression it only removed surface particles like tree sap and road film. Would autoglym silicone and intensive tar remover not be a better and more gentle approach to removing the old silicone based wax ?
I tried some of the eco friendly wax from Bildhamber the other day, whilst it gives a good shine it does not last and cause beading of water like the Meguires Xtreme nano wax. Stock up now on the carnuba wax before all we can get is the eco stuff !

I am reasonably certain Zymol is all natural products and hopefully eco friendly. It smells like a a banana fruit salad when you are applying it.
