Carpet retaining pop fastner

Hi. The footwell carpets in the RS are held in place by a pop rivet on the carpet that fastens to a another that is fixed to the floor. My car is missing the floor mounted pop rivet on the passnger side so the the carpet would slide up the footwell under braking.

On the drivers side, there is what looks like a large threaded bolt that holds the pop rivet to the floor. I have tried to remove this to have a look but it doesn't wan't to come out. On the passenger side, there is just a thread in the floor.

I went to the OPC and ordered the screw and pop rivet based on their workshop diagram which duly arived. The screw they supplied looked nothing like the correct fit for the threaded hole and they have double checked the part number and it is correct per the diagram. They checked LHD vs RHD and couldn't work out the part number.

Has any one replaced carpets or come across this who might be able to suggets the part I need or where to go for more information?

Thanks

Me again, your obviously out playing with your car on this fine day...who can blame you.

There are no such rivets or anything holding my carpets down from memory. Are you refering to overmats if so there should be a bracket that would be supplied with them that bolts onto the front seat to floor mounts and extend out to secure the mat with a turn clip. That is if they are OPC part.

Hi Lee. Yes, out for a spin and then wanted to sort a few things out as I am at Brands tomorrow for the day.

They are not overmats, they are the original carpets. There is a (female) snap fastener on the carpet that fastens onto a male fixed to the floor. I wonder if this is a non original fixing?? Looking forward to checking everyone else's cars out at Brands next week to answer all these little questions that I have.

Yoda I would ask to speak to David Nunn or Daniel from Southbound if I were you. No offence to the OPC, but Southbound deal purely with interiors and they do mats all day long. Your car should have the male half of the poper on both sides. Maybe it got lost when the new floor pan was fitted.[8|]

Hi Lee - good to meet you at Brands today, always nice to put a forum name to a face. Day started a little wet and crowded but I had an excellent afternoon. You'll have a great time on Friday, hope the weather is good for you.

Hi Paul - thanks for the contacts, will give them a bell tomorrow. I have slottred a countersunk bolt in to hold it in place but I like slowly working through the car to get it just right. New floorplan - I wish, might have been lost when the welding the two cars together as the hole in the floor is right where the weld ends.

Hi. Does anyone have another supplier for interior trim? I called up Southbound and although very knowledgeable, they couldn't have been less helpful. They knew exactly the parts I wanted but wouldn't ship them as the order was too small. I offered to collect them from Brands on Monday and pay cash and the best they could do was "try to remember to bring them".

I have spent at least a couple of hours trying to fix this using various ad hoc soloutions where a little customer service would have fixed it in 2 minutes.

At least the OPC was helpful.

Regards
