Carrera badge

Hi
I noticed today that the Carrera badge on my engine lid is lifting away.
I may want to swap it for a black one and was wondering if I can gently
pull the old one off without damaging the paintwork. Does anyone know if
they use a particular type of adhesive for this and is there any significance
of having a black or silver version?

Thanks

I soaked a terry towel in warm water and applied it on the badge and then remove the badge with the help of dental floss string. Came out without any problems. Had removed it to replace but decided to leave it de-badged.

Colours: Don't know about the Carrera but on the Boxster black was for the 2.5/2.7; Titanium for the Boxster S and chrome for the 2004 550 anniversary edition. Consider replacing it with the numbers "911" have seen several 996s with these.

My C2 has a silver Carrera script - factory original.

I think when speccing a car you can ask, as an extra, for it to have silver/black or no script at all. I think only the Carrera4, the Anniversary edition (with a chrome '911' on th back) and the C4S had the silver script (on the 4 wheel versions to go with the 'titanium' coloured calipers)

Mine too. I was thinking of changing to black but this only seems to be on lighter coloured
cars. Doesn't 911 only appear on anniversary models?

Ian, would it be possible they decided not to put black on black......?

Possibly not. Mine's black on black. Although the silver looks pretty good...

That would be my understanding of it, yes. It would seem pretty dumb to put an 'invisible' black script on a Basalt vehicle!!

Ahem. *must be invisible*

Isn't it the same situation with the Cayenne vs Cayenne S? The Cayenne having the black script, CayenneS silver (again due to the different caliper colours)?
I've certainly seen lots of black Cayennes with black scripts.

make sure you got the right one Honey!

The part number with a 10 near the end is for the facelift model, where the script goes on the bottom half of the lid.

The part number with a 07 near the end is for the pre facelift model, wherew the script goes on the top of the lid.

You will notice the "C" in Carrera is smaller on the 07 part, all to do with the concave and convex curves on the boot lid......

If your "C" is not protuding over the curve your sorted.

I removed the Targa badge off my 993 after heating it with my wife's hair-dryer (which then broke!)

This softened the glue and the badge could be gently removed.

I then removed the residue with Autoglym Intensive tar remover, before giving whole lid a good polish with Zymol HD Cleanse.

Remember to refit the badge before applying any wax as wax will stop the adhesive bonding so well.
