Carrera Battery

Hi all, some help please. My Carrera 4S does not like being left for a couple of weeks at a time. The battery goes flat and the tracking company can read the power level.

Has this happened to anyone else and if so, how do I resolve it? The dealer isn't sure. It's a 2010 convertible model.

Cheers

Hi Jon,
You'll need to get yourself one of the C-tek range of smart chargers and get used to plugging it in when the car is not in use. You can leave it permanently connected without fear of damaging or overcharging the battery.

With all the electronic gadgetry in cars nowadays the battery will tend discharge in a just couple of weeks.

There's a feature on C-tek chargers over in the Technical Section of 997 Register but you need to be a Club member to access it. [;)]

Clive

Hi Jon
As Clive has said, the C-Tek is the smart charger to have. I assume you have a 997, not a 991, given the age of the car, the 997 battery doesn't like being left for more than a couple of weeks whereas the 991 battery is of a different technology and tends to last much better. Having said that, if that is the original battery it could well be kaput.

I think with a 2010 car, as Peter has said, if it's the original battery it will be on it's way out.

I would get the charger anyway, but have the battery checked and tested as you don't want to be left stranded somewhere. They tend to go dead very quickly and often without much warning. []

Regards,

Clive.

Battery charger is a must even with a 991 as I found out over Christmas.Car not four months old and the dreaded clicking sound , car not driven for ten days or so.Now with the Porsche branded C-tech all so far is fine and worry free.

That's not good John. I have left mine for six weeks at a time with no issues (and no charger). I'd query that with your opc, as the absorbent glass mat technology (AGM) should be much better than 10 days with the car on standby.

Thanks Peter,
it may have been some very short runs in December with everything switched on.... But as you advise I'll have Silverstone check it out along with the heater (again),
