Carrera C2S PDK Rear Wheel Rotation while on Jacks

PAG ZERO1

New member
Hi Guy's
I have always had my Porsche cars serviced by my local Porsche dealers and have never taken the wheels off, but I have noticed that my hubs on the rear and front wheels have some corrosion on the inner paint and need to be repainted . Before I jack the car up can anyone confirm/advise if the car is in park mode after shutdown that you can still rotate one the wheel at a time to enable painting, the only other way I can see is to select Neutral gear with the engine started and shut down which leaves the ignition on/key installed and all the warning on which is a bit of a worry ?
regards

Pete

Hi Pete,
You will need to place the vehicle into neutral with the handbrake off and chock the front wheels before lifting at the rear. Also leave something like a spare wheel, axle stand etc underneath while you're working as a safeguard against slipping.

Clive.

Hi Clive and Robin,
thanks for you input, just checked the car and you can select neutral with engine running, and then shut down, the ignition is off but the key is locked in position but not a problem as no one is going to nick the car with the wheels off, not sure if you can still lock the car with the spare key but I thought other PCGM would be interested in this thread ? Also if you Jack the rear or front on one side the whole side lifts up due to the body structure, so as already pointed out chock the wheels the other side !

thanks
regards

Pete

Isn't there a small hole in the ignition switch barrel that you can push in a pin to release the keys?

Well, I read it. To me it reads that you want to paint the backs of the wheels but you don`t want to take them off ?

I`ll get my coat [:(]

Thinking about what you want to achieve again....I have removed all my wheels from both my Porsches and then spray the backs with alloy wheel cleaner and use a green kitchen cloth gently to clean up the wheels brake dust and road dirt, they cleanup very well even with some corrosion beneath the paint. But ONLY use the Green cloth on the backs of the wheels and never on the front....it will scratch the silver paint, the backs don't show up like the front paintwork.

Referring getting your keys out afterwards.....simple......just turn the steering back to centre and put the gear lever back in to park and remove the keys? Unless I missed your point?

Hi Guy's
I don't think you understand why I what to re-spray my hubs with the wheels off, if you do not known that after removing the wheels what are you left with is the hubs and five studs, if you have never taking your wheels off I will under stand, but again if you do take your wheels off you will see a Hub with five studs that you attach your wheels to, the round rotating bit is called the hub and inside are the wheel bearings, its the outside of these hubs that the paints corrodes and that needs ,have a look at your own and you can see what I am talking about if you want a picture let me know ?

Angusc,
Just so you know on the Gen 2 with PDK there is no small hole to unlock the key, and you are unable to return to back to park and remove the key. Buts thanks for some of the above inputs as I have now sorted it out and know the way forwards, I will sign off now with this threads.

I think you will find that there is a hub and five holes - there are wheel bolts not studs![;)] I've had the wheels off mine loads of times and it's no problem with the simple precautions mentioned above.

Hi tscaptain, agree just getting got lost in some of the threads, some members do not know what's behind the wheels and why you want to take the wheels off in the first place, but if you want the car to look A1 this is general house keeping.

regards

Pete
