Carrera Decals

Just ordered a replacement 'Carrera' decal to go on engine cover of my 993. The old one had became very brittle after thirteen years and part of it broke off when my polishing rag caught the end 'a'. Anyone got any experience in getting the remains of the old one off the bodywork without scratching paint. Any tips, techniques or hint would be much appreciated. Likewise with fixing new one. Thanks in advance.

You want to get yourself some thin fishing line or 'cat gut' as some people call it - best to do this on a warm day, with a hair drier..or after the car has been for a run so that the adhesive that holds the decal on is more malleable/tacky.

Then simply slip the line behind the decal and using a slow up/down motion with the fishing line work it through from one side of the decal to the other (so from the C to the r...as your a has already fallen off!!)

Once the decal is removed you can clean off the residual adhesive - possibly some WD-40 or lighter fluid is suitable for this...make sure you wash it thoroughly afterwards.

Then use some suitable polishing compound - autoglym or suchlike to polish out any small superficial scratches that are in the area and get rid of the carrera 'image' that will be in that area.

When you come to put your new badge on it is worth using some low tack masking tape to centralise - get an idea of where you want to position it (the right way up helps!)...as you only want to stick it on once...so do some trial runs before removing the adhesive backing on the badge.

Good luck - hope that helps!! [:)]

Brilliant chaps. Thanks so much. I am so pleased I asked as I wouldnt have thought of this method. Genius and simplicity at its best. Also helped by the fact that I fish ! Thanks again.
