'Carrera' engine bay badge

Hi Richard
Thought you might be able to help out here. I have a Forest Green C2 with a black 'Carrera' badge on the engine lid and it really is hard to see.
I have seen the posts on the forum explaining why C2's have black badges and C4's have silver ones to distinguish between them.
However I have seen silver Carrera badges for sale PORSCHE 996 CARRERA BADGE 997.559.237.01 at a very reasonable price. Can you confirm that this is the correct one for the 996 (as it says 997 on the coding).

Ideally I would prefer the chrome '911' badge instead but have no idea where I can get one. I have been told that due to shortage of supply against high demand etc the OPC is selling them for around £200 !!!

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Kind regards,

That part number IS for a 997, but I guess it might fit a 996 lid. The part number for the silver Carrera badge is 996.559.237.07.4PU and the price from an OPC is £13.29 +VAT.

I'm not sure where the chrome ones come from, but I'll have a hunt around.

No doubt you have seen "the other" thread on the badge position.....

Most of these badges are plastic with a metallized finish.

There are 911 badges in 'chromed' plastic for under £30. Try Porscheshop.

Type-911 have a good selection of badges, including 911 in "chrome look" - you could even be cheeky & put a 911 "anniverary" badge in titanium on for £32 :)

I got a chrome '911' one from Porscheshop for £15. Looked great!

It was a bit shiny though, in a perfect world it would be more satin, but can't complain for the price.

Thanks for all the replies fellas.
I phoned the OPC today and they qouted me £136 + vat for the chrome 911 badge!!! No way jose!
I'll follow up the leads you have sent me.
Thanks again guys - great help

Peter FYI, to remove your old script, soak a rag in hot water and leave it on the script for a while. Then try and peel off an edge. The whole thing may come off in one go if you're lucky. If like me, you aren't lucky, then just use some dental floss to 'saw' under the script until it all comes off. You may want to place masking tape around the old script first to let you know where the new script should go.

Good luck!

Thanks for the helpful tip Rodney

Just to follow up on the chrome 911 emblem I mentioned above, I phoned Porscheshop and had a nice talk to a chap there who was really helpful indeed.

He said that they did indeed used[/i][/b] to sell they chrome 911 emblem for about the price mentioned above (around £15 I think he said) and they used to order hundreds from Porsche. That was until Porsche spotted a lucrative sales opportunity and raised the price about 10 fold to £160 inc vat!! Rather than have a nice little earner from people like us, sales flopped and of course Porscheshop don't sell them any more as they said to me ""¦..they like to give their customers value for money"

How on earth can the sales people at Porsche AG justify this massive increase? It just alienates the true enthusiasts likes us even more and I for one will not succumb to the greed of Porsche.

I checked on the Yankee sites and found that Pelican Parts sell the 911 emblem for around $200 + postage, but although its cheaper at around £100, its still a rip off.

After speaking to Porscheshop I then had a chat with Simon at PorschApart and we discussed the cost of the 911 emblem from the OPC. He had a second had set of the 911 [/i]emblem that he was about to put on eBay. Rather than sell it he said he would look into getting an after market manufacturer to make some up. Now that is a sales opportunity that he really could make some decent amounts of money from, and the best of luck to him too.

In the meantime I'm going to replace the black Carrera emblem with a silver one !!!

Peter, will it come with a free 4 to complete the illusion? Minus five concourse points methinks [;)]

I swapped my black (on black) badge for the silver one and it looks much much better, I tried to find a chrome Carrera one for ages than gave up.

Is it possible to have your existing badge 'coated' in some way to make it look like chrome for less than £150 ?

Rob you are a bu**er - you are getting me going now.
There is no illusion matey - just wanted it to say 911 in chrome instead on Carrera in black. Who wants a 4 when its a 2?? Certainly not me. You know I like my car to be spot on for the Concours.

Diesal150 - Porscheshop sell the 911 in black - maybe I could buy one of those and try to spray it in that chrome stuff they sell at Halfords.

Nah - I'll stick to changing it to a silver Carrera badge.

Couldn't you spray it carefully yourself with chrome spray?? If it comes off just buy a silver one instead?

Peter, you know I'm only teasing. Am sure your stunning car will remain in concourse winning condition irrespective of the badge! I think silver would look better for what it's worth.
