Carrera identification

As there seems to be a gap between early 911 and later I hope this enquiry has found the right forum.

Can anyone help with identification of a 1976 911 Carrera S (3ltr) as opposed to the standard 911S (2.7ltr) of the same year?

What are the differences? is the difference reflected in the chassis/engine numbers?

Sorry - I don't know the spec differences, but a 2.7 Coupe in the 1976 model year would have a chassis number in the range 911 630 0001 to 911 630 1868 and the 3.0 911 660 0001 to 911 660 1093. These are from the Barth / Boschen book.

Hope this helps

Hi there,

just picked up this thread. Seconded pmjt's statement regarding chassis numbers. Furthermore, the carreras can be identified by their wider wheel arches, different front and rear wheel sizes, different speedo (180 mph) and rev counter red line, the 3 spoke steering wheel as opposed to a 4 spoke affair etc. Anyhoz, for cars this age, they hardly resemble their original condition mostly so best advice is really to invest in Peter Morgans reference book on the 911 and play the anorak game....

Best regards,

Bert
