Carrera Sport Specification Question

I believed my car to be of the Sport specification :-

Front under bumber rubber spolier
Rear whale tale
16" Fuchs

However, I have black Boge struts (don't know what dampers are in them though).

Is the Sport specification only fitted with Green Bilstein, or do Boge also feature on the Sport ?

I have no aircon or sunroof (German import).

Thanks,

Ian

The European cars varied from country to country - German/British/Swiss/French/Italian. If you have a look in your option codes for the 'C' code that will tell you which market the car was originally intended.

Boge was the 'comfort' setting and was widely used on cars throughout Europe. Your option codes will indicate Bilstein Sport Dampers if you have (had) them fitted - have a look. UK cars with the C16 code (which you don't have) came with 'market' options to suit the UK market - many German imports do not have the same attention to detail ie; electric seats, sun roof etc...

If you want to e-mail me off the forum, I'll check them for you.

Ian,
I thought exactly the same about my car (also a German import), but discovered that it was a 'normal' car but with the spoilers as an option. You can check the spec via the option codes under the bonnet or in teh log book. I'm sure some kind soul will post a link with the option codes. (I think they are on the Performance 2 and 4 website, amongst others). Do you have the 'sports' seats with bigger side bolsters ? I believe these should be standard fit on a 'sport', but as ever these things are never that straight forward ! 'Standard' specs do seem to vary widely from country to country and year to year. What model year do you have ? Mine is an '89 and came with 16X6 and 16X8 Fuchs as standard fit and also sunroof as standard (if I remember rightly).

No easy answer I'm afraid without checking the option codes !

Jamie

Thanks Tony & Jamie,

My car is an '86 Coupe with electric leather (non sport) seats.

I will have a look under the engine cover and boot lid etc. to find all the codes I can.

I will then e-mail direct to get help with decoding, unless there is a website that does it for me !

Confusingly, I think that later cars (perhaps all G50s?) had Boge regardless of Sport spec. So shocks are not definitive for later cars.

Yours sounds like "standard with spoilers".

Hmm Mine an 89 sport with boge fitted, also I don't have the sports seats but I do have spoilers fitted and the Fuch alloys plus full leather interior seats, doors, dash ect, sunroof and cruise control. I also have a letter from Porsche saying that it is an original sport spec car and all the other details you might want, I beleive you can get this info by writting to Porsche UK with all your cars details and numbers(and proably a cheque for £20.00) it's quite a comprehensive report.

Hi. If anyone has the web address to check chassis no/option code I would be most grateful. Tried a few searches and the performance2and4 site but couldn't find it. I think I saw it in a copy of Porsche post a few years back but not sure I will find it.

Thanks for your help.

hi ian,
try this site for the codeor to decode them
http://www.kindel.com/Porsche/options.asp

I have looked at the white label on the luggage compartment lid - bit grubby but I have verified the VIN and engine number to the logbook and chassis plate. This is good as it is a 'G' code for 1986.

Paint is L989 (or 999) LW - what is this ? (Copenhagen blue - dark blue)

Options C00 ? Label is too grubby to see if there are any more.

Would the spoilers and fuchs be listd as option codes ?

Can I send the VIN code to my local OPC to get it decoded for me ?

Thanks,

i belive that you can go to porsche cars and give them your chassis number and there will give you a print out of how it left the dealer when new.

only what i've hard.

steve

ps

one of the ways to spot a true sport model is that it will have two rear engine lid supports and not one as many people who dress a standard car up to a sport model never fit the extra one. as it has to have a bracket welded on to mount it to?

Ian

Firstly, C00 - is the international code for a German spec car.

Secondly, L989 does not exist as a colour - I think you have L999 which was Porsches 'special' paint code and can refer to many colours. You will need to contact Porsche with your chassis number and they will give you the details, including your option codes - which should be printed on the same sticker you got the G00 from.

You have a German car with the aero specs or SE as it was known. Your individual option codes will address your other specs.

Let me have your codes.

Thanks Tony,

I will send my chassis number and any other codes I can find to Porsche GB (assume than can decode German cars). I will then let you have the results. Sorry, but there are no other codes printed on ther label that I can read.

I do however have the twin struts for the engine cover.

Thanks for the help as always,

I have a Carrera !

Spoke to Porsche GB (very friendly) and confirmed chassis number and options as :-

Heated Left Seat (Drivers)
Outside Plain (not concave !) Heated Mirrors
Forged Wheels Lacquered GP White 16" (now Dark Blue)
Front / Rear Spoilers
Blaupunkt Radio (now Sony Radio / CD Changer)

Colour was 'Dark Blue' - not very imaginative there then !

Only concern is the engine number I wrote down is not as per their records - I need to go and get another look at it (car not here this week as builders in).

Where will I find the engine number on the engine - it is also on the label on the luggage compartment hood.

Thanks,

Heated Left Seat (Drivers)
Outside Plain (not concave !) Heated Mirrors
Forged Wheels Lacquered GP White 16" (now Dark Blue)
Front / Rear Spoilers
Blaupunkt Radio (now Sony Radio / CD Changer)

Heated seat - luxury ! When I were a lad.....
Mirrors - surely you mean (not convex) ?
Blaupunkt make good radios; Sony, well.....
