Cars for sale

Nothing much unless they sell [:D]

But they are.

A 2.7RS was offered to a member a couple of weeks ago - RHD, first 500, race history, all wings replaced, floor was battered to heck - £125k firm.

He turned it down - sold within a day.

Two LHD RS's now up for £125k and I'm told there's a third coming to the market soon - all with eager buyers ready to shell out cash for them.

a 2.0S went at auction a couple of weeks back for just shy of £30k and I've been told of two 2.4S's close to being dealt at around the mid forties.

These cares ARE going up in value and the ARE selling

I stand corrected but I rarely take the prices asked as being necessarily the prices achieved. Your examples clearly sold for more money than is being asked on the following "bargains!"

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/122587.htm RS £100,000

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/130959.htm RHD 2.4 T £28,950

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/126802.htm RHD 2.4S £38,000

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/122319.htm
LHD 2.4S £39,000

I think the prices of many classics are ambitious, and getting peaky, but the market is still bouyant and the best cars do seem to sell very quickly.

The RS is quite nice, but if it's the ex-Mexborough one, then IIRC it has been around for a while, needs detailing and doesn't have matching #s. Two years ago it was £60k!

You're right that the 'asking' price - just like a house - is rarely the final figure the car's sold for.

As with all these early cars - condition and provenence are the most important thing - that's why a first 232 2.0ltr '64 car is worth as much as a 2.7RS.

To take some of the examples above - the RS is a WELL known entity and has an 'interesting' history and non-matching numbers, to put it to a correct state (replace the interior!) would cost in excess of £10,000 - then there are all the other problems to sort out - as Oliver points out, this car has been around and sold for a realistic price before.

As for the 2.4S in Gemini Blue - this has been much discussed recently - it's non matching numbers, non complete restoration (merely a paint) and as an ex-race car (so I'm led to believe) it has lost some originality. The fitting of a replica 'RS lightweight' interior doesn't help either. If it was 'mint' and original price would be nearer £45,000 and above.

The LHD S is bang on the money if it's mint - they're selling for €60,000 in Europe now as they're the next thing to a 2.7 RS.

Cars with full history, in correct condition and no 'stories' will always command the money - those with the wrong bits fitted, bits missing and no history to back them up will always remain cheaper.

'tis supply (or lack thereof) and demand (at the moment, there's plenty)

I'm interested in the gemini blue 2.4 S, but despite searching I cant find where it was recently discussed.

Could someone please point me to it.

Thanks

Oh Lord - I've gawn and forgotten where [:D] It was Uncle Vic Cohen who was explaining he'd seen it - perhaps he'll be along in a minute to help my memory out []

From memory it had been a race car, had a replacement engine to 2.7RS specs, lightweight RS interior and a repaint which, while a 'quality' repaint was not a full resto.

Even if it does need some tidying, at the price that's being asked there's 'room' to improve her so to speak.
